Vote by Mail has been in the news quite a bit this summer, and as summer
\nturns to fall and our attention now focuses on the November mid-term
\nelections, the purpose of this e-mail is to provide some basic information
\nto help clarify the status of your ability to Vote by Mail in Hanover (and
\nin all of MA) this fall.<\/p>\n
First, Vote by Mail was created for all registered voters in MA in 2016 by
\nthe legislature. Very few voters took advantage of it initially. Then, in
\n2020, the legislature passed emergency measures during COVID, and a
\npermanent law in 2022, that allowed for postcard applications to be mailed
\nto all registered voters. That is the law that exists today that allows
\nall registered voters to receive a postcard application to Vote by Mail
\nwithout an excuse. (Please note that this is a postcard application, NOT a
\nballot. You have to apply!) Nothing that has happened recently at the
\nfederal level has changed this.<\/p>\n
If you received a postcard application in July and applied back then to
\nVote by Mail in the September Primary Election AND the November State
\nElection, you are in the Voter Registration Information System as a Vote by
\nMail applicant and will automatically receive a ballot by mail for the
\nNovember State Election…soon. Ballots are being printed as this is email
\nis being sent on 9\/21\/26. <\/p>\n
If you received a Vote by Mail postcard application in September (they
\nstarted to hit mailboxes in Hanover last week) inviting you to Vote by Mail
\nin the November State Election, then you are NOT in the Voter Registration
\nInformation System as a Vote by Mail applicant YET. Please see the
\nattached sample postcard for reference. If you want to Vote by Mail in
\nNovember, then return that postcard NOW. The Hanover Town Clerk’s Office
\nstrongly recommends you do this as early as possible.<\/p>\n
