Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We have all dodged the cones and trucks along the =
\nnorthern\/middle
\nportion of Route 53 for the past year and a half and work is progressing =
\nquite
\nnicely.  As someone who commutes through this portion of Route 53 =
\nmost days, I
\nhave to say that the project has been managed very well and delays have =
\nmostly
\nbeen kept to a minimum.  Good news – the Route 53 bridge over Route =
\n3 is about
\nto finally be reconstructed, too.  Hooray!  More delays, but =
\nall for the
\neventual good.  Below please find an update from the Planning =
\nDepartment
\nregarding both of those projects, with special thanks to Andy Port, Town =
\nPlanner:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Route 53 (Washington =
\nStreet)
\n\/ Route 3 Bridge:<\/span><\/u><\/b>=
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

In mid-August 2009, the =
\nMassachusetts
\nHighway Department (MHD), through their consultant contractor (Aetna =
\nBridge
\nCompany) will re-start work on the long-awaited reconstruction of the
\nWashington Street (Route 53) over Route 3 bridge.  The anticipated
\ncompletion date for this project is July, 2012.  The location of =
\nthis
\nproject is shown on the map above.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The Bridge crossing will remain OPEN =
\nduring
\nconstruction.  MassHighway and the Town ask for patience from the =
\npublic
\nas this important traffic improvement project is underway.  =
\nHowever, there
\nmay be some delays due to limited lane width and work space.  As =
\nsuch we
\nanticipate that residents, businesses, commuters, and the general public =
\nwill
\nconsider alternative routes <\/b>as they deem =
\nnecessary.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Route 53 (Washington =
\nStreet)
\nRoadway Widening:<\/span><\/u><\/b>=
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Since April 2008, the Massachusetts =
\nHighway
\nDepartment (MHD), through their consultant contractor (Paolini =
\nCorporation) has
\nbeen widening an approximately one-mile length of Washington Street =
\n(Route 53)
\nin Hanover.  The limits of this widening project are between Mill =
\nStreet
\nand Pond Street\/Rawson Road.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Between August 4 & 7, 2009 the
\ncontractor will be conducting final paving operations on the northern =
\nsection
\nof this stretch of road.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Between August 10 & 11, 2009, =
\nthe
\ncontractor will be installing roadway lane striping.<\/span><\/b>=
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The remainder of the project =
\n(southern
\nroadway section) will be completed between August 2009 and October =
\n2010.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Businesses on Route 53, including =
\nthose
\nalong this stretch of Route 53 will remain OPEN during =
\nconstruction. 
\nMassHighway and the Town ask for patience from the public as this =
\nimportant
\ntraffic improvement project is underway.  While this stretch of =
\nRoute 53
\nwill remain open to traffic during construction, there may be some =
\ndelays due
\nto limited lane width and work space.  As such we anticipate that
\nresidents, businesses, commuters, and the general public will consider =
\nalternative
\nroutes <\/b>as they deem necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The project, once completed, will =
\nprovide
\nadditional lane capacity and a middle turning lane, matching the =
\nalignment
\nalong Washington Street near the Hanover Mall.  The anticipated =
\ncompletion date
\nfor this project is October 1, 2010.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n
