The Hanover Lions Club has a long and proud history, and they are a GREAT
\ngroup that does so much for our town. I am therefore pleased to publicize
\nthe following e-mail notice of their upcoming information night for
\nprospective new members. Check this out!<\/p>\n

INFORMATION NIGHT DECEMBER 2, 2009<\/p>\n

The Hanover Lions Club will be holding an information night for all
\nindividuals interested learning more about Lions activities and becoming
\nmembers. The event will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2009 at the John
\nCurtis Free Library from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

Lions International was founded in 1917 and is comprised of 1.35 million
\nmembers in 194 countries worldwide. They answer the needs that challenge the
\ncommunities of the world. Lions tackle tough problems like blindness, drug
\nabuse prevention, and diabetes awareness which is the major cause of adult
\nblindness. <\/p>\n

Established in 1961, the Hanover Lions Club follows the Lions motto of "We
\nServe". <\/p>\n

The Hanover Lions serve in many ways – from hands on involvement in
\ncommunity activities such as health screening services (for glaucoma, eye,
\nblood pressure, and hearing), a speech contest for High School students, a
\nPeace Poster Contest for Middle School students, Santa’s yearly arrival at
\nthe library, to eye glass and hearing aide donations to needy individuals.<\/p>\n

Our fund raising activities include a golf tournament, pancake breakfast,
\nweekly meat raffles, and a Christmas raffle. All money raised goes to
\ncharities selected by the club each year. Our charitable interests address
\nlocal, state, national, and international needs. Local donations included
\nHanover scout troops, Hanover Food Pantry, veterans and families at
\nChristmas, Hanover Council on Aging, Hanover Visiting Nurse Association,
\nNorth River Collaborative, Scholastic Awards night at the High School, and
\nthe Massachusetts Lion Eye Research Fund, which annually provides close to
\n$1M in "seed" money for research into all fields of blindness and eye
\nrelated diseases. Last year, we donated over $15,000 to charitable causes.<\/p>\n

The Hanover Lions Club meets at the Imperial Garden Restaurant on the 1st
\nand 3rd Tuesday of each month. If you are interested in learning more about
