Altrusa International, Inc. of Plymouth County will sponsor antique
\nappraisals on Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 1 – 5 p.m. at Phoenix Lodge in
\nHanover (corner of Washington and Broadway).<\/p>\n
The South Shore’s Joan Caddigan, Auctioneer and Antique Appraiser brings her
\n35 years of expertise to Altrusa International’s Antique Appraisal Day. Ms.
\nCaddigan will discuss the state of the antique market and downsizing. She
\nis a member of the South Shore Dealers Association, National Auctioneers
\nAssociation and Past President of the Massachusetts Auctioneers Association
\nand Hanover Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Caddigan will be joined by noted
\nAppraiser and Antique Dealer, Henry T. Callan, from East Sandwich. Mr.
\nCallan has been buying and selling antiques since 1969 and is a member of
\nthe New England Appraiser’s Association. He has a Master’s degree in
\nhistory and teaches a course on antiques. Mr. Callan will discuss Chinese
\nPorcelain and embroidery samplers. Paul Mueller-Reed, a well known book
\nappraiser from Sunderland, MA. will also be on hand to appraise antique
\nbooks. In business for 18 years, Mr. Muller-Reed is an expert on rare and
\nscholarly books.<\/p>\n
All kinds of antiques will be appraised with the exception of stamps, coins
\nand jewelry. Appraisal for each item will be $5 (limit three items).
\nGeneral Admission is $5 for those without appraisal items. All proceeds
\nwill benefit the local charities of the Altrusa International of Plymouth
\nCounty including parties for Veterans at Brockton Hospital Facility,
\nproviding yarn to seniors in the community to knit scarves, hats and mittens
\nthat are then donated to children and families in need, donations to local
\nfood pantries, support for the Rehoboth Homeless Shelter, and scholarships
\nto Massasoit College.<\/p>\n
