{"id":798,"date":"2010-04-12T22:00:55","date_gmt":"2010-04-13T02:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atotw.com\/archive\/?p=798"},"modified":"2010-04-12T22:00:55","modified_gmt":"2010-04-13T02:00:55","slug":"vacation-week-music-program-at-john-curtis-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atotw.com\/archive\/?p=798","title":{"rendered":"Vacation Week Music Program At John Curtis Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n<p>What are you going to do with the kids during April vacation?!<\/p>\n<p>David Coffin, a musician, singer, storyteller, educator and maritime<br \/>\nspecialist, will present &quot;Life At Sea:  A Voyage In Song&quot; at the library on<br \/>\nTuesday, April 20 at 4:00 p.m.  The musical program recreates a voyage on an<br \/>\nold New England whaling ship, with the audience members acting as the ship&#8217;s<br \/>\ncrew.  Mr. Coffin will lead the audience in singing sea shanties, &quot;hoisting<br \/>\nthe sails&quot;, and acting out other shipboard activities.  Playing the<br \/>\nconcertina and other instruments, he is particularly skilled at getting a<br \/>\nwhole audience singing.  There will also be a special appearance by his<br \/>\nfriend, &quot;Pierre with the bad hair&quot;.  The program is very interactive, full<br \/>\nof humor, and informative as well as entertaining.  <\/p>\n<p>Mr. Coffin is a descendant of the Nantucket Coffins, one of the most<br \/>\nprominent American seafaring families.   He is a multitalented performer who<br \/>\nhas been singing and playing music at hundreds of venues all over the<br \/>\ncountry for more than 20 years.  He regularly presents educational programs<br \/>\nat schools around New England.  <\/p>\n<p>This program is supported by a grant from the Hanover Cultural Council, a<br \/>\nlocal agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a<br \/>\nstate agency.  The program is designed for families with children in<br \/>\nkindergarten and older.  Free tickets are available in advance at the<br \/>\nlibrary, and all are welcome.
