{"id":844,"date":"2010-05-17T10:30:23","date_gmt":"2010-05-17T14:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atotw.com\/archive\/?p=844"},"modified":"2010-05-17T10:30:23","modified_gmt":"2010-05-17T14:30:23","slug":"hike-luddams-ford-this-saturday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atotw.com\/archive\/?p=844","title":{"rendered":"Hike Luddam&#8217;s Ford this Saturday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Join the Hanover Open Space Committee (OSC) for a  hike<br \/>\nthrough Hanover&#8217;s &#8220;gem&#8221; this coming Saturday, May  22nd,<br \/>\n9:00 a.m. at Luddam&#8217;s Ford.&nbsp; Explore this recaptured parkland  with a<br \/>\nknowledgeable local guide. This wonderful 4.5 mile trail loop passes  through<br \/>\nPembroke, Hanson and Hanover public trails.&nbsp; View pictures and<br \/>\ndescriptions of the expansive former industrial site located on the  current<br \/>\npark and fish ladder. The walk includes rugged terrain &amp; challenging<br \/>\nhills.&nbsp; Please wear shoes with good tread &amp; support.&nbsp; We  advise<br \/>\nyou to bring bug spray with DEET. Walk will begin from the parking lot  on the<br \/>\nHanover side of the falls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Additional upcoming Open Space events:  <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>June 19th, 9:00 a.m. Walk at the Bog  Iron trails<br \/>\nbetween Broadway, Willow Street and Hanover Street<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>July 10th, 9:00 a.m. Canoe from  Luddam&#8217;s<br \/>\nFord Boat Launch.&nbsp; Contact Hanover Parks and Rec to register,<br \/>\n781-826-7529. &nbsp;Event limited to 15 boats.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Hanover OSC was chartered to ensure that the  town&#8217;s<br \/>\nrural character is maintained and enhanced both through protection of  existing<br \/>\nresources and acquisition of new properties.&nbsp; It is responsible for  planning<br \/>\nand facilitating the improvement of open space, enhancing access to open  space,<br \/>\nand raising awareness of land use issues.&nbsp; The OSC is also  interested in<br \/>\nprotecting land that is environmentally sensitive, could be used for  passive<br \/>\nrecreation, or is important for conserving the look and feel of the  town.&nbsp;<br \/>\nOur goal is to retain the natural beauty and heritage of the town we  live in<br \/>\nand love.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed about activities and volunteer  opportunities:<br \/>\nyou can find us on Facebook: Hanover Open Space, the web: http:\/\/www.hanover-ma .gov\/open-space.shtml,<br \/>\nor join our Yahoo Group: HanoverOpenSpace.&nbsp; In addition, the OSC  wants<br \/>\ninput from the equestrian community in town.&nbsp; Please let us know if  you<br \/>\ncan contribute your specialized knowledge and needs to our volunteer  committee.&nbsp;<br \/>\nWe would also like to hear from you if you are simply interested in more<br \/>\ninformation on the work of the Committee.
