The Hanover Open Space Committee
\n(OSC) invites you to celebrate the opening of the Stasiluk-Nava Conservation Area
\nSaturday, October 2nd at 10:00 a.m. Using your Community
\nPreservation funds, the town secured this beautiful mix of woods and meadowland
\nproperty in the fall of 2008.<\/p>\n
Over the past two years, OSC members, neighbors and volunteers have restored
\nthe scenic rock-wall-lined view, and cleared encroaching brush in the meadow. Beginning
\nin Spring of 2010, Eagle Scout candidate Jonathon Terry developed the first
\nlooped trail through the wooded portions of the property. The Department
\nof Public Works generously worked with the OSC team to clear a small parking
\nlot near the southeast corner of the property. The team will work with
\nlocal garden club members to restore portions of Mrs. Nava’s beautiful perennial
\ngardens on the property. "We are excited to add this important
\nparcel into our greenway strategy. In addition, plans are already
\nunderway for an additional seasonal trail through the grassy area with the
\naddition of benches to view bird houses volunteers have built" shares
\ncommittee co-chair Mary Dunn. The property is located at 553 Center
\nStreet.<\/p>\n
Working with the OSC and the Hanover Historical Society, committee member Judy Grecco
\nwill lead a walk from the Fire Museum through the Merry and Morrill Allen
\nPhillips properties (located between Broadway and Center Streets) at the end of
\nOctober. <\/p>\n

\nor join their Yahoo Group: HanoverOpenSpace. In addition, the OSC wants
\nfor input from the equestrian community in town. Please let the OSC know
\nif you can contribute your specialized
\nknowledge and needs to the volunteer committee.<\/p>\n
The Hanover OSC was chartered to ensure that the town’s rural character is
\nmaintained and enhanced both through protection of existing resources and
\nacquisition of new properties. It is responsible for planning and
\nfacilitating the improvement of open space, enhancing access to open space, and
\nraising awareness of land use issues. The OSC is also interested in
\nprotecting land that is environmentally sensitive, could be used for passive
\nrecreation, or is important for conserving the look and feel of the town.
\n The OSC’s goal is to retain the natural beauty and heritage of the
\ntown we live in and love.<\/p>\n
The OSC would also like to hear from you if you are simply interested in more
\ninformation on the work of the committee. The Open Space Committee meets regularly
\non the 1st Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Hanover Town Hall.<\/p>\n
