Musical instruments wanted

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Please see the below e-mail from one of Hanover’s future leaders. It
doesn’t get much better than this!

“Hello!

My name is Jake Sledziewski, an Eagle Scout candidate from Troop 38 in
Hanover. I am beginning the process of completing my Eagle project, and was
hoping to get your help.

My project is simple: I’m collecting old or used concert band instruments
(trumpets, flutes, trombones, saxes, clarinets, etc.), and donating them
back to Boston Public Schools. It is my hope that students who want to do
music but may not be able to due to the cost of musical instruments will
have the chance of creating something special. I have been a member of the
Hanover music program since I was 10, and now that I’ve begun the process
to become an Eagle Scout, I wanted the opportunity to do a music-based
project to cap it off.

I need actual instruments, as opposed to toy/plastic variants, and also, I
will not be taking handheld percussion instruments, microphones or any
other sound equipment, or anything that would not be used in a high school
band.

The collection will take place on Sunday, February 25th, from 9:00 a.m. to
about 4:00 p.m., at the Hanover Transfer Station. If you drive in, it will
be in the very back, behind the bottle collection near the charity bins.
You will see a sign labeled “Instrument Collection”.

If you have any questions please contact me at: jsledz312@gmail.com .

Thank you so much for your help.

Sincerely,
Jake Sledziewski”

Good luck, Jake – what a great project!

Hanover Woman’s Club, Juniors Scholarship Booklet

The Hanover Woman’s Club, Juniors along with the Hanover High School
Guidance Department has compiled their annual booklet of scholarships
available to graduating high school seniors. Each year, many local groups
and organizations award scholarship assistance to Hanover students. A
listing of the many scholarships available are in booklet form and include
eligibility, guidelines and application procedures for each scholarship.
The scholarship information is available to any Hanover senior student
attending Hanover High School or any private high school. The Scholarship
Booklet will be available mid-February just prior to February vacation and
can be accessed online at www.hanoverschools.org/highschool/guidance.

The Hanover Woman’s Club, Juniors has been compiling and offering a
Scholarship Booklet for over 30 years along with awarding scholarships to
deserving seniors students. This year, three scholarships will be
available through the club in the areas of Arts, Achievement and Nursing.
The Achievement Scholarship weighs heavily on community service in addition
to academic achievement. The Arts Scholarship is available to those
students who are focusing on the fine arts, dance, music, or drama, etc.
The Nursing Scholarship is in memory of a long time member and Past
President of the Club and will be awarded to a student whose interest will
be in the field of nursing.

The club encourages students to apply for any and all of the scholarships
that they are eligible for and wishes all seniors the best in their quest
for higher education.

Boston Bruins and The John Curtis Library team up for kids

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The John Curtis Free Library has teamed up with the Boston Bruins to
participate in their annual pajama drive to benefit DCF Kids and Cradles to
Crayons. The PJ Drive’s goal is to collect 10,000 pairs of new pajamas
for children and teens in need.

The Boston Bruins PJ Drive runs from February 1 through March 15, 2018. The
library will be collecting new pairs of pajamas for babies, children and
teens.
Bruins forward P.J. Axelsson and his wife, Siw, started the PJ drive during
the Boston Bruins 2007-2008 season as a way to give back to their
community. The couple collected 1,600 pairs of pajamas for Cradles to
Crayons which connects with social service agencies across the state to
identify specific children in need.

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) works with the
Boston Bruins to coordinate library participation in the drive. Libraries
from around the state use the Massachusetts Library System’s delivery
service, typically used to send books and other library materials, to send
their PJs to area collection locations which increases libraries’ ability
to participate in the drive.
The collection box for pajamas is located on the children’s room
circulation desk by the library’s main entrance. For more information,
call 781-826-2972, extension 4, or email the children’s librarian at
lcampbell@ocln.org .
