Tickets to the Patriots playoff game to benefit the Hanover Food Pantry!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Did “A Simple Gesture – Hanover”, the new program to benefit the
Hanover Food Pantry, touch your heart? Well, it also touched the good
folks of Honey Dew Donuts who would like to further support the Hanover
Food Pantry.
So, today, I am pleased to announce that we will resurrect the on-line
auction function of “Around Town on the Web”. A pair of tickets to the
upcoming Patriots divisional playoff game has been donated by Honey Dew
Donuts for the benefit of the Hanover Food Pantry. 100% of the proceeds of
this on-line auction will be donated to the Hanover Food Pantry.

Two tickets are available for the following game:
New England Patriots vs. Tennessee Titans
January 13, 2018, 8:00 p.m.
Sideline seats – Section 114, Row 21, Seats 14 and 15

The 2 seats have a total face value of $348. For those who are relatively
new to “Around Town on the Web”, here’s how it works. Bidding will
begin at $300 – at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10th and will be
accomplished simply by sending an e-mail to cathyhb@atotw.com . Once you
enter a bid, you will be added to the distribution list that will keep you
updated on the latest bid (as best as humanly possible given my work
schedule this week!). Bids will be accepted until exactly 5:00 p.m. on
Friday, January 12th. If two bids for the same amount are received, the
earlier bid will take precedence. So, it is to your advantage to bid your
best price early. Bids received by me after 5:00 p.m. (computer clock time)
on Friday will not be considered. So don’t wait until it is too late!
If you are the winning bidder, your tickets will be delivered to you before
the game on Saturday. Bid early, bid often! Go Patriots! And special
thanks to Honey Dew Donuts – such a great cause!

Search for our next Town Manager continues

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The search for Hanover’s next Town Manager continues to move forward. Last
month Hanover’s consultant, Municipal Resources, Inc., met with department
heads, residents, and town employees to gather feedback on the personal
attributes, leadership qualities, and experience desired for the next Town
Manager. In addition, they also sought input on the major issues and
challenges facing the town.

The position has now been advertised and applications will be accepted
through February 5th. You can view the job posting and ideal candidate
profile here: http://www.mrigov.com/hanover_ma__town_manager

Residents still have the opportunity to provide input directly to Municipal
Resources, Inc directly via email to: hanovertm@mrigov.com

Also, the Board of Selectmen is still accepting applications for residents
who are interested in serving on the Town Manager Interview Panel. The
members will represent the community on a panel facilitated by Municipal
Resources, Inc. in order to provide input as to how each semi-final
candidate fits with the community. As a member of this panel you will be
asked to assess certain personal characteristics, attributes and aspects of
individual style that relate to how well a candidate may interact with and
be viewed by members of the community. It’s anticipated that the
semi-final interviews will be conducted on a single Saturday in early
March.

Members of the panel will be asked to guard the privacy of candidates and
the information obtained during the search process. If you are interested
please send a Talent Bank application to ann.lee@hanover-ma.gov. Talent
Bank applications are available at:

A Simple Gesture – Hanover

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I have loved this idea from the moment I heard it!

Are you looking for a new way to help the Hanover Food Pantry? “A Simple
Gesture – Hanover” makes it easy! This new program, modeled after
similar programs nationwide (including one in Norwell!), will provide
volunteer households with a Cool Green grocery bag to fill with
non-perishables. Volunteer households (affectionately referred to as
“greenbaggers”) are asked to pick up just one extra item per grocery trip
to store in their Cool Green Bag. On the first Saturday of every other
month (6 times per year on scheduled dates), additional volunteers pick up
the full Cool Green Bag, deliver it directly to the Hanover Food Pantry,
and leave a new Cool Green Bag to be filled over the next two months.

If you are interested in becoming a “greenbagger,” volunteering to pick up
bags, or unpack at the Food Pantry, you may find out more information by
visiting the new “A Simple Gesture – Hanover” website at www.asghanover.org
. Or, for more information, please e-mail contact@asghanover.org .

Winter storm updates

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Unless you have been in Pasadena with the Hanover kids who marched with the
UMass Marching Band in the Tournament of Roses parade, by the time you read
this, you are well aware that there is a winter storm upon us. :)

In case you missed it, Hanover Schools are closed as are Hanover Town Hall,
the John Curtis Library, and the Senior Center. Updates about tomorrow
will surely be posted on the Hanover MA and Hanover Public Schools Facebook
and Twitter pages.

There is a regional shelter that opened at 7:00 a.m. this morning in
Scituate for anyone who needs it sooner rather than later. Hanover’s
shelter crew is on standby as I write this (8:30 a.m. Thursday), with
discussions about warming areas also occurring. Again, stay tuned to
social media to keep up.

In case of a power outage, make sure you report it to National Grid – even
if you think your neighbor already did. It helps them to track numbers,
and helps Hanover emergency management folks to identify folks in need of
assistance.

I had a conversation with our Hanover Nurse Administrator yesterday who is
particularly concerned about our elderly neighbors who might not have
access to cell phones and/or social media in case of a power outage.
Please, please, reach out to those folks today and tomorrow as the weather
unfolds. It’s just what we do here in Hanover.

Stay safe, and stay warm.

Annual Town Census has been mailed

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The annual town census has been mailed to all Hanover households. All
residents should review the information on the form, make any changes if
necessary, and sign and return the form as soon as possible. Household
members who are temporarily living away from home, such as college
students, members of the military services, etc., should not be removed
from the census if they plan to use Hanover as their voting address.

Also included in the census mailing are a Hanover School Information Sheet
and a Dog License Application. If relevant, these forms should also be
completed and may be returned in the enclosed addressed envelope or dropped
through the mail slot in the front door of the Hanover Town Hall. If you
did not receive a census form or are new to the Town of Hanover, you can
download one on-line here:
http://www.hanover-ma.gov/sites/hanoverma/files/file/file/blank_census_form_2015.pdf
or please contact the Board of Registrars at: 781-826-5000 ext. 1028 or the
Town Clerk at 781-826-5000 ext. 1079.

Completion of the annual census is important for a number of reasons. It
assists in accurate municipal planning, it provides public safety officials
with current information, and it allows Hanover to receive the proper
allocation of state and federal funds and grants. Filing a census can
provide proof of residency for a number of legal requirements such as
in-state tuition at state colleges, and housing benefits, veterans’
benefits, and insurance benefits. Also, any registered voters in a
household that fails to complete an annual census will lose their
“active” voter status.

For more information, please contact Registrar Kathy DiSabato at
katherine.disabato@hanover-ma.gov or Registrar Pam Ferguson at
pamela.ferguson@hanover-ma.gov ,Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier at
catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov or Assistant Town Clerk Meg Pallotta

Dog licenses now available on-line!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced today that 2018 Town
of Hanover dog licenses are now available on-line, by mail, or in the
Hanover Town Clerk’s Office. The licensing period is January 1, 2018 –
March 31, 2018, and a $10 late fee applies beginning April 1, 2018. All
dogs over the age of 6 months are required by law to be licensed. The
license is good for one year, and costs $10 for spayed or neutered dogs,
and $15 for intact dogs. Residents over the age of 70 will be given a free
license for their vaccinated dog upon proof of the owner’s age.

In an effort to make this process easy for residents, there are several
ways to license your dog.
• The easiest way is on-line via a link on the Town Clerk’s section of
the Town of Hanover’s website, which is also here:
https://townforms.com/TownForms/public/Login/BusinessUserLogin.aspx?ch=FB41A7C6E5AFCA94A2F2D9044860C90E&rtn=%2fpublic%2fforms%2fformViewer.aspx%3fch%3dFB41A7C6E5AFCA94A2F2D9044860C90E%26fn%3dSHDogLicense
. If your dog is currently registered in Hanover, you will just need
his/her current tag number to find your on-line record. Set up an account
and pay on-line without leaving the comfort of your home!

• Residents may also fill out the dog license application that is found
on the Town Clerk’s section of the Town of Hanover’s website at:
http://www.hanover-ma.gov/sites/hanoverma/files/file/file/hanover_dog_license_application_revised_with_on-line_payment_info.pdf
. This is the same application that was included in the census this year.
Completed forms may be mailed in with your payment, proof of current rabies
vaccination and proof of spaying or neutering (if you have not submitted
that information previously) to: Town Clerk’s Office, 550 Hanover Street,
Hanover, MA 02339, and your tag will be mailed back to you.

• As has always been the case, dog licenses may also be obtained in
person at the Town Clerk’s Office during normal business hours. Please
bring the same paperwork – current rabies vaccination, proof of
spaying/neutering if you have not submitted that information previously,
and your cash or check payable to the Town of Hanover.

Unlicensed dogs are subject to a minimum of a $25 fine, with an additional
$25 fine if unleashed and another fine of $50 if unvaccinated for rabies.
Don’t delay; get your dog’s license today!

If you have questions or need more information about the licensing of your
dog in Hanover, please call the Town Clerk’s Office at (781) 826-5000
x1079 or e-mail catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov or
meg.pallotta@hanover-ma.gov . Kennel owners are encouraged to call or stop
in also, as their licensing process requires an inspection and other
additional paperwork.
