Storm follow-up

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

After being without Wi-Fi since Friday, and watching my friends and
neighbors patch together their lives and houses after that wild storm, I
felt compelled to check in with my fellow Hanoverians with this first
e-mail back.

I have been amazed and proud of the work of the Department of Public Works,
Fire Department, Police Department, and Building/Inspectional Services
Department. The long hours, the devotion to their professions, and the
kind regard for all of us is simply phenomenal. The Hanover Emergency
Management folks and Council on Aging really stepped up and took care of
those in serious need, too. I saw utility trucks from Pennsylvania and
Tennessee – and I know they are still out there in some spots. The tree
guys and roof repair folks were not far behind. The community of helpers
came together.

The public and less-public offers of assistance and support on Facebook –
and by the good-old-fashioned phone when nothing else was working – were
nothing short of heartwarming. I myself was loaned a generator to get my
sump pump re-started and several fans and extension cords, and a friend
brought over a hot meal which meant the world when it was in the 40’s in my
house. So many of us have stories like that to tell. Our Hanover
neighbors are the best!

As the rain and snow start to fall again today, I know I will sleep well
tonight regardless – knowing that we will take care of each other again if
the need should arise. If you need something, don’t hesitate to ask for
help here in Hanover – we are here for you. We are here for each other.
Thanks for all that you do, too.

Musical instruments wanted

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Please see the below e-mail from one of Hanover’s future leaders. It
doesn’t get much better than this!

“Hello!

My name is Jake Sledziewski, an Eagle Scout candidate from Troop 38 in
Hanover. I am beginning the process of completing my Eagle project, and was
hoping to get your help.

My project is simple: I’m collecting old or used concert band instruments
(trumpets, flutes, trombones, saxes, clarinets, etc.), and donating them
back to Boston Public Schools. It is my hope that students who want to do
music but may not be able to due to the cost of musical instruments will
have the chance of creating something special. I have been a member of the
Hanover music program since I was 10, and now that I’ve begun the process
to become an Eagle Scout, I wanted the opportunity to do a music-based
project to cap it off.

I need actual instruments, as opposed to toy/plastic variants, and also, I
will not be taking handheld percussion instruments, microphones or any
other sound equipment, or anything that would not be used in a high school
band.

The collection will take place on Sunday, February 25th, from 9:00 a.m. to
about 4:00 p.m., at the Hanover Transfer Station. If you drive in, it will
be in the very back, behind the bottle collection near the charity bins.
You will see a sign labeled “Instrument Collection”.

If you have any questions please contact me at: jsledz312@gmail.com .

Thank you so much for your help.

Sincerely,
Jake Sledziewski”

Good luck, Jake – what a great project!
