Vote this Thursday!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The State Primary Election is being held this Thursday, September 8th from
7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Hanover High School. Yes, that’s a Thursday, and
yes it is the first week of school! Crazy, right? Plan your voting
strategy now – when will you find time in your day to go? I am writing in
an effort to help you #knowbeforeyougo because it will be a busy day at
HHS, and in town!

First, check your party status so you know which ballot to ask for before
going to the polls, here:
https://www.sec.state.ma.us/VoterRegistrationSearch/MyVoterRegStatus.aspx .
Remember that there are four parties – Democrat, Green-Rainbow,
Republican, and United Independent Party. If you are registered in one of
those parties, you must take that ballot. If you are “unenrolled”
(commonly known as “independent”) or in a political designation, you can
pick which ballot you want.

Unenrolled and not sure which ballot you want? Here’s the list of
candidates in the 2016 State Primary:
http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/ele16/state_primary_candidates16.htm .
Still not sure? Let me narrow some of it down for you: Nyman/Moody are on
the Democratic ballot, and DeCoste is on the Republican ballot.
Alliegro/O’Malley are also on the Republican ballot, and Flynn/Iannella are
on the Democratic ballot. Neither the Green-Rainbow and United Independent
Parties have nominated candidates on their ballots. Other questions?
Don’t hesitate to stop by my office and view the Specimen Ballots – which
will also be on display at the high school on Election Day.

How about parking? The high school starts later this year…7:55 a.m.
That will ease traffic flow right at 7 when the polls open. School also
ends later – 2:40 p.m. Please plan accordingly and avoid those times if at
all possible. There will be about 10 “election parking” spots in the front
of the building and lots more election parking in the back of the building.
You are encouraged to take the Cedar School driveway and come in the back;
it’s also a shorter walk from there to the polls. Please don’t park in a
numbered spot – students have reserved parking this year in those spots!

The Center School addition question will be on the October 1st ballot and
the Presidential Election contest will be on the November 8th ballot – not
this week’s ballot. Stay tuned for further details about both elections.

What’s your voting strategy? When will you go and how will you vote when
you get there? See you at HHS from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday! If
you have further questions, don’t hesitate to contact me, Town Clerk Cathy
Harder-Bernier, at catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov or by calling
781-826-5000 x1079.

Welcome back to school!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I could not let this week go by without joining in the chorus to welcome
Hanover’s teachers and administrators back to work.

I had the good fortune to attend the Hanover Public School’s Convocation
yesterday morning, and I seriously wish the entire town could have heard
and seen the enthusiasm for teaching and learning, and community and family
in the Hanover High School auditorium that day.

Highlights included a delightful and hilarious “Cheers” themed skit
starring HHS Principal Matt Paquette, an impassioned and grateful speech
from specialist Stacie Barlow, the recognition of over 500 years of service
to our children from teachers earning longevity awards, and student music
and master of ceremonies performances. Ask someone who was there about
Steve Lovell’s outfit, Fonzie’s appearance, or the Hutchison Family
performance!

School starts Tuesday, September 6th for students in grades 1-12. Buses
will be on the road that morning and students will be impatiently waiting
at the bus stops. Please be safe out there and drive with caution,
especially the first couple of weeks while bus schedules get ironed out.

Welcome back to some of the finest professionals I know. Thanks for
teaching our kids and being a part of our community. We love you!

Register now to vote on the Center School renovation project

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced that Friday,
September 9th is the last day to register to vote at the October 1st
Special Town Election. Town Hall will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
on Friday the 9th. Further, Friday, September 16th is the last day to
register to vote at the September 26th Special Town Meeting, and Town Hall
will again be open until 8:00 p.m. on 9/16.

Any Hanover citizen who will be eighteen on or before the Special Town
Meeting (September 26th) or by the Special Town Election (October 1st) is
encouraged to register to vote. Once registered, individuals will be
eligible to vote in all elections thereafter, including the Presidential
Election in November.

Citizens of Hanover may conveniently register to vote or change their party
status on-line, by mail or in person. The link for on-line registration is
here: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/OVR . If residents choose to register
by mail they should download the “Massachusetts Mail-In Voter
Registration Form” found here:
https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/elepdf/Voter-reg-mail-in.pdf and mail the
completed form to the Hanover Town Clerk’s Office.

If voters wish to register to vote in person, they may do so at two
convenient locations: Hanover Town Hall or the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

“As we continue the run-up to the Presidential Election in November, I
encourage Hanover residents to not lose sight of these elections where
their votes actually ‘weigh more’ because of the lighter turnouts”,
said Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier. “Several major decisions have
been made on Town Meeting floor by a one-vote margin and local elections
have turned on less than 10 votes just in the past few years. Plan now to
register to vote…so you can vote in October…and November!”

Questions may be directed to Hanover Town Clerk Cathy Harder-Bernier at
(781) 826-5000 x1079 or by e-mail at Catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov
, or Senior Registrar Nancy Goldthwait at (781) 826-5000 x1082 or

Do you use open space, parks, fields or trails in Hanover?

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Do you visit or use Hanover’s open space, trails, parks, and fields? Why
or why not? What type of amenities would you like to see more of?

The Town of Hanover is updating its Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP)
to set goals and priorities for the next seven years. Your input in this
survey will help the Town identify opportunities for significant, long-term
preservation and improvements that provide the greatest benefit to town
residents. Findings and recommendations from the OSRP will be incorporated
into Hanover 300, the Town’s 10-year master plan. This survey is designed
to better understand resident demand and awareness of Hanover’s open
space and recreational facilities.

Complete the survey by clicking the link below.

To learn more about the Hanover300 process and how you can participate, go
