Art classes at the library

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Friends of the John Curtis Free Library will bring two, six-week art
workshops to the library for children ages 3-5 and also for children ages
8-10. These classes will be fully funded by the Friends with participants
asked to pay only a $10 supply fee.

A clay and mixed media class will be taught by Pam Golden, a sculptor and
art educator, to children ages 8-10 on Fridays from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the
children’s room at the library from February 26 until April 1. Even though
the class has started, there are still spaces available, so sign up today!

They will also bring Kreative Kids with Karen Cass, an artist and art
educator, to the library on Thursdays from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. in the
children’s room at the library from March 10 until April 14. This class
will provide children ages 3-5 with an introduction to basic art techniques
while focusing on nature and the spring season.

Registration for these classes is happening now at the children’s
circulation desk. Preference is given to children who have not taken this
class before. Sign up in-person at the library as soon as possible as these
classes are limited to 10 children per class. The registration fee is
required to sign up. Contact Tracy Marchetti, tjmarchetti@verizon.net,
with questions.

Thanks to the Hanover DPW and Police departments

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This just in from the Meads Family of Hanover:

As many of you who travel down Union Street may have seen on Friday,
February 12th, there was a water main break which closed down Union and Old
Washington Streets for several days. The break happened at the end of our
driveway, collapsing one lane of the road. We were out of town for the
day, and upon returning home in the early hours of Sunday morning, realized
there was no running water or heat in our house (our furnace requires water
to run). The temperature in the house was 37 degrees; outside it was 10
below zero. Concerned our pipes would freeze and after learning that the
town was unaware that the water main break had left our home without heat
and water, we spoke to Neal Merritt and Tom Chiarelli of the DPW who were
stationed outside on the road, along with several others. A short time
later, Neal miraculously arrived back at the house with a handful of space
heaters to try and keep the pipes from freezing. There was a team of
Hanover DPW and Hanover Police working day and night Friday through Monday
to make repairs and keep people safe.

Our family wants to thank everyone involved for their professionalism and
hard work to fix a very serious issue during the record breaking cold
temperatures. We really appreciate everything everyone has done and want
everyone else to know how hard working these folks are. This is truly one
of the benefits of living in a small town – people care about their
neighbors. Everyone’s generosity is appreciated.

Thank You – The Meads Family

Library pass spotlight

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Each month, the Friends of the John Curtis Free Library will provide

library card-holders that is funded by the Friends and provides patrons
with significant discounts.

If you are looking for something different, interesting for all ages, and

incredible museum is packed with amazing preserved birds and mammals of all
kinds and from many continents in addition to their famous glass-blown,
botanically correct flower collection. New exhibits are offered on a
regular basis with great programming for young and old alike year-round.

The pass is available to anyone with a library card, so visit the library
in person or online (www.hanovermass.com/library/) today to use this pass.
Enjoy!

Survey responses requested by 2/12

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Council on Aging is conducting a survey. This survey is not
just for seniors to complete. This survey is for families of seniors, for
those who may be approaching retirement and want to know what services are
available to seniors in Hanover, and for residents who are interested in
the services available or could be available at the Hanover Council on
Aging.

The survey should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete, and all
answers are completely anonymous. If you choose, you may volunteer to take
part in a focus group by providing your contact information at the end of
the survey. Every answer is important. Your opinion does matter. Your
responses will continue to make the Hanover Senior Center an enjoyable and
essential place.

The deadline for submission of the survey is: February 12, 2016.

If you have questions, contact Robyn Mitton, Director, Council on Aging, at
robyn.mitton@hanover-ma.gov .
