Summer Programs

Park and Rec
PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive, age-appropriate opportunity for all
youth to experience outdoor recreation, both passive and active with their
peers, all while creating great memories and new friends.
PROGRAM: The Park and Rec program consists of four sessions. This program
is open to all in grades K – 6. Each grade travels together to different
stations every 55 minutes, these stations range from Arts and Crafts to
Floor Hockey to Tennis. Within each grade level 10- 14 children are
assigned a counselor to guide them and provide activities throughout the
day. The counselor groups are usually done alphabetically and just for
attendance purposes. The entire grade plays together. Along with the
counselors, the Parks and Recreation Department also employs an Assistant
Director and three Directors. The Directors provide services such as first
aid help, weekly talent shows, tournaments and arts and crafts. They also
oversee all aspects of camp including field trips, pizza days, t-shirt
distribution as well as the normal day to day operations.
PROMISE: To do everything possible to allow all children to have the best
possible summer by creating many opportunities for children to have fun all
summer long!

Teen Extreme
PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive, age-appropriate opportunity for all
middle schoolers to socialize and stay active during the summer.
PROGRAM: The Teen Extreme is a field trip based, exploration program that
consists of seven, 1 week sessions. This program is open to all in 5th –
8th grades. Each week, children travel to two new and exciting places
across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. During Rec Center
days many activities are offered by the staff however, the campers choose
whether to participate or not.
PROMISE: To allow for fun age appropriate activities for the Middle
Schoolers of Hanover (and surrounding towns) to enjoy and experience each
week of the summer.

Kids Klub
PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive, age-appropriate opportunity for potty
trained 3-6 year olds to socialize and have fun with other children their
age. Kids Klub will serve as a “recruitment tool” for future Park and
Rec participants and hopefully lifelong fans of our summer programs.
PROGRAM: Kids Klub is a unique pre-k program that runs over the course of
7 weeks. Session One is 1 week while Session Two, Three and Four are 2
weeks. They offer two different options for parents. Option 1)
Monday-Friday (Mondays and Wednesdays at the Pre-K Playground at B. Everett
Hall (Sylvester) Field) and Option 2) Three days a week on Tuesdays,
Thursdays and Fridays at the Rec Center. Both options start at 8:30 a.m.
and continue until 12:30 p.m. The children are divided into counselor
groups to travel with their groups to different assigned stations.
PROMISE: They understand that for many children this may be the first time
that they have been away from their parents for an extended period of time.
They promise that your children will enjoy themselves while creating new
friends in a fun and safe environment.

Blood drive at Town Hall – sign up today!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Many people want to give back to the community, but may not have a lot of
time to volunteer. The American Red Cross reminds eligible individuals that
in only about an hour, volunteer blood donors can help save lives and feel
instant gratification.

Blood is a perishable product that can only come from generous volunteers.
By donating blood, individuals can make a difference in the lives of
patients in their community and throughout the nation.

Upcoming blood donation opportunity:
Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Large First Floor
Conference Room, Hanover Town Hall, 550 Hanover Street

How to donate blood:
Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit
redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an
appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a
reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or
two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who
are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at
least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate
blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger
also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

audrey.barresi@hanover-ma.gov .

HHS volunteers are ready to serve

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Did you know that beginning this school year, all Hanover High School
students must complete 10 hours of community service every year as a
graduation requirement? With approximately 800 students at the school,
that is almost 8,000 hours of service available to the town!!

HHS students have been very busy completing community service hours at
numerous town and school events, and with various organizations and
churches. I even have a volunteer working in the Town Clerk’s Office this
week and next!

Since there is no greater gift than giving back to the community with some
community service, HHS would love to have students volunteer at your
business or organization. If you have any opportunities available, please
contact Hanover High School:

Kathy Gallagher (781) 878-5450 x2503 kgallagher@hanoverschools.org
Debbie Kinney (781) 848-5450 x 2501 dkinney@hanoverschools.org
Nancy Foster (781) 878-5450 x 2502 nfoster@hanoverschools.org

How can a Hanover High student help your event, business or group today?!
