Check out these new and returning programs for kids at the John Curtis
Library!

Sing With Your Baby with Julie Stepanek: Thursday, January 20, 2:00 – 2:45
p.m.
Sing With Your Baby is a participatory music program for children 0-3 and
their caregivers. This program features finger plays, singable songs and
integrated movement. It can be upbeat or laid-back, depending on the
audience. Julie Stepanek provides shakers, scarves and percussive
instruments and leads with ukulele and voice.

Children’s Spanish Class: Thursdays, 4:00 – 4:40 p.m., January 20 –
February 17
Instructor Kendelle Ingram will teach Spanish for ages 4 to 6 years,
incorporating stories, songs, and games, with a different theme each time.

Children’s Yoga Class: Mondays, 11:00 – 11:45 a.m., through February 14
Children’s Yoga with Christine Walker of Little Bee Yoga Company is up
and running again! Open to all ages, yoga is now drop-in, no registration
needed.
The library’s regular weekly drop-in story times continue in person.
Story time for 3 and 4 years, Mondays 10:15 – 10:45 a.m.; Patty-Cake for
babies up to 17 months, Mondays 11:00 – 11:20 a.m.; Toddler Time for 18 to
35 months, Wednesdays 10:15 – 10:45 a.m.

The good folks at the library have also reactivated links to all the story
times they filmed last year for any families who are unable to attend
in-person story times. Please go to the Children’s Room section of the
library’s website and scroll all the way to the bottom to watch them at
any time.

The music program, Spanish, and Yoga are all funded by the Friends of the
Library.

You’re invited to join the volunteer committee that organizes Hanover’s
annual festival of fun! Mark your calendar; this year’s event is
scheduled for June 25, 2022.

There’s always room at the table for new faces and new ideas.

Are you interested in the arts, music, or event planning? Do you have
fundraising skills? Do you have new ideas on how to make this the best
celebration yet? Hanover Day volunteers work hard and have fun, and they
need your help!

The first organizational meeting will be held via Zoom on Thursday, January

“no-cook Tuesday” fundraiser at Chipotle this coming Tuesday! A portion of
the proceeds of all sales between 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on January 11th at
the Hanover Chipotle will be donated to the Hanover Unity Council. You

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

There has been quite a bit of dialogue in town over the past few days and
weeks regarding the optional Anti-Bias Leadership program and the Raising
Multicultural Kids program that have been introduced in the Hanover Schools
over the past few years.

Last week, Around Town on the Web (ATOTW) published a statement that was
sent in to ATOTW from the Hanover Unity Council supporting these programs
and asking for signatures. After that statement was sent out, one Hanover
resident wrote in to ATOTW asking for “the other side”. As the ATOTW
editor, I wrote back to that one resident, sending her some links to some
information that I found readily available on the Hanover Schools website.
Up until that point, I had not heard from “the other side”, but I was happy
to help her to find the information she sought.

After some thought, and in an effort to be fair, I thought I would send
that same information to the rest of ATOTW’s readers today.

ATOTW heard directly from “the other side” petitioners (now known as “The
Motherlode”) for the first time late last week. Since the Hanover Unity
Council statement was looking for signatures, again in an effort to be
fair, I have attached The Motherlode’s original petition.

I am sure this topic will continue to be discussed publicly and privately
in the future. My hope for all of us is that we do so cordially,
reasonably, and without vitriol. ATOTW will not get involved in the debate
but will continue to provide information, as always. As a reminder, the

To close, below please find the Statement on Community Inclusiveness that
was signed by the Select Board in the fall of 2020.

“The Hanover Board of Selectmen clearly and unequivocally denounces racism,
discrimination, and hate in all forms. We are living through a time of
unprecedented challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic and
all-too-familiar calls to address injustices, discrimination, and racism in
our communities. In addressing these challenges, we have all been forced to
reexamine and question our norms, history, and relationships with one
another. Let us reframe these challenges as an opportunity to come together
and recognize that Hanoverians experience racism and prejudice while
engaging in a meaningful dialogue that recognizes and values diversity and
inclusivity in our town.

As your local elected leaders, we pledge to promote positive, necessary
change and we will deliver on that responsibility. We have a duty to
ourselves, our residents, employees, visitors, and businesses to ensure
that everyone who enters our community is treated with respect and dignity.
Hanover has rich traditions of town spirit, community involvement, and
kindness. As a community, we strive to welcome people of every race, ethnic
background, national origin, religion, ability, gender identity, and sexual
orientation. In this light, we encourage residents to actively seek common
ground while working to nurture an inclusive, anti-racist, and welcoming
community. Hanover is great but we can be even better. Join us in making
tomorrow better than today.”

I hope we can continue to recognize and value diversity and inclusivity in
our town. I look forward to promoting events on ATOTW that do just that.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced today that 2022 Town
of Hanover dog licenses are now available on-line, via the front door mail
slot, by US mail, or in the Town Clerk’s Office. Due to increasingly
higher COVID-19 positivity rates and reduced staffing in the Town Clerk’s
Office, residents are kindly encouraged to license their dogs without
coming into the building. The licensing period is January 1, 2022 –
March 31, 2022, and a $10 late fee applies beginning April 1, 2022. All
dogs over the age of 6 months are required by law to be licensed. The
license is good for one year, and costs $10 for spayed or neutered dogs,
and $15 for intact dogs. Residents over the age of 70 will be given a free
license for their rabies-vaccinated dog upon proof of the owner’s age.

There are several easy and socially-distant ways to license your dog.

and are simply re-registering an existing dog, you can retrieve your
account by entering your first name, last name, house number and then by
selecting a street name from the drop-down menu. You must enter the
information exactly how it was registered on the system in order to
retrieve your account. If found, you have to confirm your pet(s) name and
then you can enter an email and create a password. This will save you
having to upload existing rabies or spay/neuter certificates! It will also
prevent duplicate and therefore confusing records. If you already have a
“GoPetie” (Hanover dog license) account, go to the log-in page here

and log-in with your e-mail address and password to access your account and
re-license your dog. Your tag will be mailed to you upon our acceptance of

on the Town Clerk’s section of the Town of Hanover’s website at:

Office, 550 Hanover Street, Hanover, MA 02339, and your tag will be mailed
back to you.

Unlicensed dogs are subject to a minimum of a $25 fine, with an additional
$25 fine if unleashed and another fine of $50 if unvaccinated for rabies.
Don’t delay; get your dog’s license today!

The following statement is just in from the Hanover Unity Council. It is
copied and pasted as it was submitted to Around Town on the Web. There is
an attachment from the HUC for your review, also.

“We hope this finds you healthy and happy as we near the end of 2021,
another often difficult year.

Many of you are aware that an optional Anti-Bias Leadership program as well
as a program supported by Raising Multicultural Kids were started in the
high school and elementary schools, respectively. The HHS program is
funded by a grant in partnership with Boston University and the
Anti-Defamation League. The high school level program is already being
taught in 77 Massachusetts cities and towns. Unfortunately, a group of
Hanover parents and citizens has brought loud protests against this
program. At this time, due to many factors including the backlash, the
programs have been put on hold.

The Hanover Unity Council stands in strong support of both the Anti-Bias
Leadership Program and the Raising Multicultural Kids program that is set
to resume in 2022.

On the attached pages, you will find our statement and petition in support
of the programs. We are planning to submit the statement and signatures to
the School Committee. If you are a Hanover resident and are in support of
the programs, we ask that you print and manually sign the petition and
return to us by January 3. If you would like to collect additional
signatures, we welcome your help as well. Please scan and email to

All of the proceeds from the breakfasts help to support their food pantry
and scholarship programs. Phoenix Lodge regularly donates to the Hanover,

scholarships each year to South Shore Regional Vocational Technical High
School.

December is their annual breakfast with Santa. Bring the kids to have a
great breakfast and a photo opportunity with the big man himself, Santa
Claus!
