Virtual Community Kids’ Halloween Costume Contest

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Woman’s Club, Juniors is proud to announce their first ever virtual
Community Kids’ Halloween Costume Contest.

Normally during this time of year the Hanover High School Band would be
practicing and getting their costumes ready to lead the Club’s Annual
Halloween Parade, and members of the Club would be filling goody bags of
candy to give out and lining up some fun entertainment for the children.
This year with the COVID-19 restrictions, the HWCJ’s is unable to bring
the parade to the town as they have done for the past 37 years.

The last week of October is “Advocacy Week for Children” in the General
Federation of Women’s Clubs which the club has been federated under since
1970. The parade is the annual community service project the HWCJ’s does
to participate in Child Advocacy Week in order to show support for the
children in our community.

This year the HWCJ’s is excited to offer a Virtual Costume Contest for
the children in our community. Everyone so looks forward every year to
seeing all the children in their costumes. At least this year that will
not be different!

The Club has 4 different categories based on age groups; they will be
looking for originality and of course, cuteness. Each category has a
prize. Details as to how to enter are listed below and in the attachment.

with parent’s name and best phone number to reach for prize announcement

2. PRE-K TO FIRST GRADE

Vote by Mail ballot update

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Ballot “kits” for the November 3rd State Election were finally received in
the Hanover Town Clerk’s Office from the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s
Elections Division on Wednesday, October 7th in the afternoon. Since then,
the office staff, including extra per diem staff, have been working very
hard to begin to get the 3,600 Vote by Mail ballots (8 – 10 times the usual
number for a presidential election) that have been requested out to Hanover
voters. It’s a very labor intensive process that requires many checks and
balances in order to make sure your ballot gets to the right address.
Thank you in advance for your patience.

Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier currently anticipates that all 3,600
ballots will be mailed out by the middle or end of next week. Please give
the US Post Office 3-5 business days after that to deliver your ballot to
you. Want to know where your ballot is? You can “track your ballot” by
going to the Secretary’s ballot tracking portal here:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=xDTs2r0WROq+cjcdTcMKAQdYn1HCne5akoKLlY2xhqVoqLt7nDNYRqoN783ZLADJ
.

The new ballot drop box in front of Town Hall will be re-opened soon for
you to return your ballot easily and securely. Please consider returning
your ballot as soon as possible – to help the staff who will be processing
the returns get ahead of the crush.

For additional up-to-date information on the processing of ballots in
Hanover, go to the Town Clerk’s Facebook page (you don’t need a Facebook
account to read the information) located at

Community Arts, Science and Humanities grants

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Apply now for community arts grants through the Hanover Cultural Council.

Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs are
due November 16.

Despite continued uncertainty with the Commonwealth’s FY21 budget, the
Massachusetts Cultural Council and its local affiliate in Hanover have
opened the process to apply for grants for the coming year.

The Hanover Cultural Council uses its share of state cultural funds, in
addition to money raised at Hanover Day, to support arts, science, and
humanities projects throughout the year. Although Hanover Day 2020 was
canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the local Council still expects
to receive state funding once the budget is finalized. The exact amount has
yet to be determined.

November 16, 2020 is the deadline for organizations, schools, and
individuals to apply for grants to fund cultural activities in Hanover.
These grants can support a variety of arts, science, and humanities
projects, including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist
residencies or performances in schools, workshops, and lectures.
Applications and more information about the program are available online at
www.mass-culture.org.

Past events have included the Summer Concert Series by the Parks and
Recreation Department, the Drama Club Dinner Theater programs at South
Shore Vo-Tech, funding for the Hanover Performing Arts Company, Pastel
Painting Workshops, the Annual Hanover Day Art Exhibit, Museum of Science
Outreach program at Cedar Elementary School, several museum passes and
children’s programs at the John Curtis Library, and sponsorships of
programs for the Walnut Hill Garden Club, South Shore Natural Science
Center, Hanover senior center, and many others.

The Hanover Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural
Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The state
legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural
Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.
Local councils are allowed to raise additional money through events like
Hanover Day.

For more information, contact Chris Haraden, Hanover Cultural Council
Chairman at (781) 254-3131, or charaden@comcast.net.
