Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The vote to demolish Curtis School wasn’t 24 hours old when the
inquiries regarding the future of Gallant Field and the adjacent
property started to come in. Actually, the discussions haven’t
stopped for years! The fire department has made a case for the need
for a fire station in the north end of town, and began talking about
that site several years ago. Prior to the request for the new fire
station, the Parks and Recreation Committee dreamed of including
Gallant and an otherwise empty lot in its 2007 Parks and Recreation
Master Plan.
In an effort to re-cap these two ideas, ATOTW will feature some
general information for your consideration. First off, please click on
or cut and paste this link:

The .pdf file located here is the “preferred plan” as voted by the
Parks and Recreation Committee in 2007 for Gallant. You can see that
it preserves the baseball field, and also adds some
low-impact/low-traffic volume tennis courts, a playground, and a
“support building” that could include bathrooms.
Since then, of course, the town started to make the case for a fire
station on the north side of town. Stay tuned for further information
from the Fire Department!
