Open Space event this Sunday

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Join Hanover Open Space: November 6th, 9:00 a.m.
Looking for a way to get involved in your town; have a teenager that
needs some community service time?

Special places across Hanover need your help. Volunteer for a few
hours and you’ll become part of the movement to protect Hanover’s
landscapes and landmarks for everyone, forever.

Please join Hanover’s Open Space Committee at the Stasiluk-Nava
property on Sunday, November 6th at 9:00 a.m. There is sure to be
something for everyone. We will clear brush from the field and stone
wall, as well there is an opportunity to help clear and restore an
existing perennial flowerbed near the parking lot. Please wear layers.
Bring clippers and gloves, if you have them. The property is located
on Center Street in between Myrtle Street and the Senior Center.

The OSC is on the lookout for individuals and groups from our
community that want to take an active role in our trails and open
spaces. In conjunction with our existing trail walks, we will host a
series of volunteer events in the coming year. We are happy to tailor
events for a group, or provide opportunities for folks that have a
particular interest.

Volunteer Positions can vary from reporting on trail conditions,
monitoring wildlife, offering to give a tour on your favorite trail:

A few opportunities we can currently offer:
· Trail Maintenance and Monitoring. Keep us up to date on your local
trails’ conditions and use.
· Help install improved trail signage and marking at locations
throughout town.
· Historical research of open spaces throughout town.
· Bird nest box monitoring at Nava Field on Center Street.
· Vernal Pool Certifications. With little more than a clipboard and a
camera you can help us officially certify some of the potential vernal
pools in town.
· Other ideas; let us know!

Of course for some volunteer opportunities, there are specific skill
sets that would be important for a prospective volunteer to possess.
But today the most important qualities are curiosity, willingness to
take responsibility, and a willingness to learn about these wonderful
properties and all they contain.

Come join us, and be a part of promoting Hanover’s best assets to
our community. Please send your full name, address, telephone and/or
e-mail to hanoveropenspace@gmail.com

or contact either of our co-chairs:
Mary Dunn at mdunn@post03.curry.edu

Hal Thomas at halhanover@msn.com

It would be helpful to know your availability both days of the week
and time of day and any special experience you may have.

Thanks!
