Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The Hanover Special Education Parent Advisory Council is pleased to
announce their next educational seminar. All events are free and open
to the public, with no reservations required. Please join them!
*Transition 101: from High School to Adulthood, *with Marilyn Weber of
the Federation for Children with Special Needs/.
/
*Tuesday, December 6, 2011, Hanover High School, 287 Cedar Street,
first floor, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.*
This workshop will focus on the needs of students who are not expected
to pass the MCAS and graduate at the traditional age of 18. We will
discuss the effective use of the IEP and the Massachusetts Transition
Planning Form for students who are ages 14 – 22. It has been shown
that individualized, person centered planning of curriculum and
supports throughout high school leads to better post high school
outcomes and opportunities in education, training, and/or employment
for students with disabilities. Discussion will include the age of
majority, self determination and self advocacy, life skill development
and preparing students to pursue as independent an adult life as
possible.
*What is the Hanover Parent Advisory Council?*
The *PAC* is a parent group whose mission is to work toward
understanding, respect, support and appropriate education for all
children with learning differences in our community. The *Hanover PAC*
will provide an opportunity for parents to network and share
information as well as a way to work constructively with our schools
to make them the best they can be for all children.
