“Irish Need Not Apply”

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
*“Irish Need Not Apply”*
On Monday, October 22, join historian Chris Daley at the Hanover
Library as he presents a slide lecture in which the many facets of the
early Irish experience in Boston are examined. Included will be the
immigration of the Irish into Boston before and after the great Potato
Famine and also the corresponding increase of Anti-Irish sentiment
with the burning of the Ursulin in 1834 and the Broad Street Riot in
1837. There will also be a discussion of the rise of the Irish within
the sphere of Boston politics. The program is sponsored by the Friends
of the John Curtis Library. There is no charge for admission and
refreshments will be served.
