Dear fellow Hanoverians:
This just in from my good buddy Jeanne Quinlan and the
fastest growing sport in Hanover!
The Hanover Girls Youth Lacrosse program is in desperate
need of coaches. As with many other sports programs in our town, we cannot run them
without help from parents. Fortunately, our numbers are growing every
year. We have enough players already signed up for the spring ‘09
season to field two teams at each grade level. Unfortunately, we do not
have enough coaches to coach all these teams. I know most of you
didn’t play in high school and do not know the sport. No experience
is necessary. There are clinics that you can attend, and I am working on
a “coaches clinic” here in town to
help parents that want to help their kids. The two women in town that
started the girls program didn’t even have girls that played the
sport. They both played in high school and college and just have a love
for the sport. I on the other hand never played, but volunteered when one
of my children’s team didn’t have a coach. And here I still
am 5 years later.
Please help if you can. If we don’t have coaches,
there will be no teams. We would hate to put a cap on the number of girls
that we can take into the program. At these ages the opportunity should
be out there for every girl to try every sport and see where their passion
lies.
The commitment would be one or two afternoons a week for
practices and games are played on Sundays.
