Hanover’s election results

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I have been remiss in sending out the Town of Hanover’s election results to
all of you! A friend chided me on my delay yesterday, which reminded me
how many of you rely on “Around Town on the Web” for town news. My
apologies for this delay.

My first priority in reporting the unofficial election results is always to
the people gathered at the high school shortly after the polls close. The
unofficial results are always announced publicly – usually within 15 or 20
minutes after we close. Feel free to join us if you are so motivated!
Oftentimes the Hanover Mariner reporter joins that crowd and is terrific
about posting those results quickly. My second priority takes the form of
an e-mail after we are done at the high school – usually two or three hours
after the polls close. That e-mail goes to all of the rest of the local
media outlets.

The town election results will also always appear on the Town Clerk’s
webpage located here: http://www.hanover-ma.gov/town-clerk/pages/elections
. We post the unofficial results the day after the election (thanks,
Meg!). They are there as I write this; you will see that Hanover voted for
Geoff Diehl, but I am sure you know by now that Mike Brady won the overall
race across the district and will be our new State Senator.

New this year is the addition of my Hanover MA Town Clerk Facebook page,
which also has the results posted. That page may be found here:
https://www.facebook.com/HanoverMAClerk/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel . Please
“like” that page so that you will automatically see the results in your
feed next time.

And finally, one more note – the unofficial results are just that. It
usually takes several days to dispense with provisional ballots and any
other related issues. Additionally, the Registrars of Voters “registers
the vote”, which is a time-consuming process that usually takes several
days, also (thanks Nancy, Pam and Kathy!). At this election, there were
two write in votes that actually were blank upon closer hand-count Tuesday
night. So two write-ins were re-categorized as blanks in the official
final results. Once all of those processes are said and done, I report
those official results to the Secretary of the Commonwealth, which I did
last night when I finally “certified” the election.

Hope this e-mail is helpful to you as we close the books on another
well-run election in Hanover (soooooo many thanks to everyone involved –
especially our Wardens John, Carol, Joe and Rick)and set our sights for the
Presidential Primary on March 1, 2016!
