Garden Club public Plant Sale

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Walnut Hill Garden Club of Hanover will hold its traditional public plant
sale on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 p.m. at Riley Hall of
the First Congregational Church located at 17 Silver Street (corner of
Silver and Hanover Streets). Co-presidents and sale organizers Teri Mallory
and Susan Hart report the sale will feature a large selection of plants
from member gardens, all at affordable prices. The sale will include
colorful daylilies, irises, Shasta daisies, ornamental grasses, hosta,
astilbe and other hardy plants for shade; plus ground covers, shrubs and
more.

Last week Walnut Hill Garden Club members were busy potting up plants from
several member gardens. Of special note, they potted up lots of great
daylily plants that were donated by daylily hybridizer Stephen Tooker of
Scituate, who until recently kept a wonderful Daylily Society display
garden. Most of these plants are LATE SEASON BLOOMING (August – September
as opposed to July – August). Many people have July blooming varieties so
these are good additions to extend the bloom period in local gardens. In
addition, there will be lots of great plants for both sun and shade,
including plants from the historic Stetson House gardens.

It is suggested that shoppers come early for the best selection, and it is
recommended that they bring plant trays, crates and boxes to carry
purchases home. Visitors to the plant sale should park in the front lot of
Riley Hall on the corner of 139 and Silver Street.

Sales proceeds will benefit Hanover beautification projects.
