Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced that Tuesday, April
11th is the last day to register to vote at the Annual Town Meeting and in
the Annual Town Election. Town Hall will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00
p.m. on Tuesday the 11th. Interestingly, Friday, April 14th is the last
day to register to vote in the Special Town Meeting that is also scheduled
for Monday, May 1st. Town Hall will be open until 8:00 p.m. on that Friday
night, too.
Any Hanover citizen who will be eighteen on or before the first day of Town
Meeting (May 1st) or by the Town Election (May 6th) is encouraged to
register to vote. Once registered, individuals will be eligible to vote in
all elections thereafter. Further, residents may “pre-register” to
vote if they are age 16 or 17, but they will not be eligible to vote until
they turn 18.
Citizens of Hanover may conveniently register to vote or change their party
status on-line, by mail or in person. The link for on-line registration is
here: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/OVR . If residents choose to register
by mail they should download the “Massachusetts Mail-In Voter
Registration Form” found here:
https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/elepdf/Voter-reg-mail-in.pdf and mail the
completed form to the Hanover Town Clerk’s Office.
If voters wish to register to vote in person, they may do so at two
convenient locations: Hanover Town Hall or the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
“New residents and high school students are strongly encouraged to
register to vote. It is the cornerstone of our democracy!” said Town
Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier. “Several major decisions have been made
on Town Meeting floor by a one-vote margin and local elections have turned
on less than 10 votes just in the past few years. Register now to
vote…so you can vote in May!”
