Kimberly Mills-Booker, candidate for School Committee

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Below please find Kimberly Mills-Booker’s Candidate Information Sheet,
exactly as submitted, for one of the two School Committee seats.

Name : Kimberly Mills Booker
Office Seeking: School Committee
Address: 171 Maplewood Drive, Hanover, MA
Telephone number: 781-829-1164
Length of Residency: 9 years

Please list relevant experience (education, vocation, etc.) you feel will
be useful in the office you are seeking.

Being a tax payer and a parent with children in the schools, I have a
vested interest in making Hanover Schools the very best place for educating
our children.

I have my law degree and have devoted my practice to helping others –
including working for the Legal Assistance Corporation in the Family Law
Unit and my current work in private practice.

Since moving to Hanover, I have been very involved in our town and schools.
I am a den mom for the cub scouts, I teach CCD, and volunteer to help in
the schools with the yearbook and talent show. I am an active board member
of the Hanover Club.

I have been a member of the school committee for the last three years. On
the school committee I have chaired the reconfiguration subcommittee and
the special education subcommittee. I am also a member of the Center
School Building Committee. I have a valuable understanding of the role
of our schools in the town, as well as the importance of strong
relationships between school and town officials.

What are the major issues confronting the town which involve your office?
Please express your opinion on these issues and how you propose to deal
with them.

There is a great deal of public trust when electing members to school
committee. Hanover has been very fortunate to have amazing committee
members who have guided Hanover in a positive direction; I want to continue
this trajectory. The committee has a good working relationship with the
Superintendent. We communicate well with each other and the members of the
schools administration.

I have been working for the last five years on the Center School Project.
I want to see this project through the next phase. It will be a showpiece
of Hanover and a valuable resource for all of Hanover’s children.

Why are you running for this office?

Like many parents, the quality of our school system was one of the main
reasons my husband, Michael, and I have decided to raise our children here.
I am running reelection because I am committed to continuing our tradition
of academic excellence in Hanover. We have been fortunate to have school
system and school committee that has strong track record of leadership and
I would like to continue in that tradition.
