Hanover’s Memorial Day Observances

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Memorial Day Parade
Hanover’s Memorial Day Parade is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. at Saint
Mary’s Church and end at the Veterans’ Memorial. The parade route includes
remembrances at the Hanover Center Cemetery, Hanover Town Hall, and the
Sylvester School World War II Memorial. Parking is available at the
Veterans’ Memorial, located next to B. Everett Hall Field, Saint Mary’s
Church, and Center School.
Once at the cemetery, the parade will honor and memorialize various veteran
plots including the Josselyn and Cummings World War I soldiers, the tomb of
the unknown soldier, the Police and Fire memorials, the American Legion,
and Veterans of Foreign Wars memorials. The parade will then march toward
the Civil War Memorial (by the cannons across from Town Hall). There,
parade will honor the Civil War as well as the Korean, Vietnam, and World
War II veterans. The parade will then march to the Sylvester School
building to honor World War I soldiers, and then end at the Hanover
Veterans Memorial.
Please note that aspects of the parade are subject to change at a moment’s
notice, weather dependent.

Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veterans’ Memorial
Hanover’s Memorial Day Ceremony will begin at the Veterans’ Memorial, at
the conclusion of the Memorial Day Parade. The ceremony includes an opening
prayer, remarks from our veterans, and a roll call by the Veterans Service
Agent, and the laying of a wreath. The memorial is located at 495 Hanover
Street, next to the B. Everett Hall Field.

Veterans Open House at the Legion
Following the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony, from 12:00 noon to 3:00
p.m., all are invited to attend an open house at the Josselyn-Cummings
American Legion (Post 149), 104 King Street. Meet and greet a veteran and
learn more about the Hanover American Legion.

Forge Pond Park Memorial Day Picnic
This year, a picnic featuring food, fun, and family entertainment will be
held at Forge Pond Park, starting at 1:00 p.m. (after the conclusion of the
parade and ceremony at the Veterans’ Memorial). Forge Pond Park is located
