Town Meeting report

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Special Town Meeting to close out FY ’09 business
and the first night of the Annual Town Meeting were not without sparks, passion
and good solid debate.  After over an hour and a half of deliberation, Town
Meeting approved Article 18, step one of the Town Manager proposal.  Two
vigorous amendments were proposed by the Board of Public Works and then a
former Selectman.  Both amendments failed.  The article passed in its
entirety as it is written in the warrant.  Step two of the Town Manager
proposal will be this Saturday, May 9th, with a vote on Question One.
If you are in favor of a Town Manager form of government, vote yes on Question
One; if you are opposed, vote no on Question One.

In other business, the town approved the recommendation of
the Advisory Committee of a FY 2010 budget of over $45 million.  I was
also personally pleased to hear the report of the newly constituted Energy
Advisory Committee.  It’s great to have fresh faces devote their
time and energies to the betterment of our town.  Their involvement was a
suitable book-end to the retirement of long-time Planning Board member Maryann
Brugnoli that was noted at the start of Town Meeting.  Congrats, Maryann; we
are ALL better for your devoted service and expert guidance over the past 24
years.

We concluded the evening with the passing of Article 23, and
will resume the Annual Town Meeting proceedings at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night at
the high school gymnasium.  See you then.
