Dear fellow Hanoverians:
This morning’s e-mail regarding the break-in in
Hanover prompted some excellent electronic discussion regarding safety issues
in Hanover. Yesterday’s early release from school for our children
added another layer of implication, too. What follows are some tips I
heard from fellow residents that I thought bear repeating for all of us:
·
Review as a family what to do in case of an
emergency…especially if an older child will be home alone.
·
Talk about who is generally home during the day
in your neighborhood with your kids…so they know who to call if they need
reassurance.
·
Do you and your children have 911 “In Case
of an Emergency” on speed dial? Do your kids know your work and
cell numbers? How about those neighbors’ numbers? Are all
those numbers in their cell phone directories?
·
Encourage your kids to never go anywhere without
a buddy…even if they are only playing in the neighborhood.
·
The Hanover Parks and Recreation Babysitting
Course provides great “In Case of an Emergency” information for both
babysitters and older children who are given the freedom to stay home alone.
Contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 781-826-PLAY for future course
dates.
Now is the time to have those conversations with OUR kids.
As they say, an ounce of prevention…
