Hanover Woman’s Club, Juniors invites you!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Woman’s Club, Juniors is open to new members. Hanover Woman’s Club,
Juniors (HWCJ), a local volunteer organization, is part of the
International General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) of which there are
60,000 members worldwide. Formed in 1890 in New York, the organization is
dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through
volunteer service. As a local club, the HWCJ lives up to the motto “Living
the Volunteer Spirit”. The local club of HWCJ was founded in 1970 by a
group of Hanover residents interested in giving their time, effort and
resources to some of the needs of the town.

Since its inception 53 years ago, the club has sponsored many projects
including having the bus arms installed on all school buses in Hanover as
one of their first projects. Each year a Halloween Parade and Breakfast
with Santa are held for the children in the town. Candidates’ Night is
held in the spring prior to town elections and a Library Tea is held in
April for the library volunteers. Scholarships are awarded to deserving
seniors at the end of the school year. Other projects have included the
building of the bandstand and some funding for the rebuild of the new one
several years later. In 1991 the club was part of the formation of the
Hanover Food Pantry and continues to this day with volunteer service to the
pantry. The club’s fundraisers give back to worthy organizations in the
community. Members enjoy new friendships, club dinners and luncheons, an
annual auction and programs and crafts at club meetings.

HWCJ would love to have you as a member. Despite its name as Juniors, the
club member’s ages range from the 40’s to their oldest charter member at
96. The club meets the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. with
most meetings at the John Curtis Free Library. For membership information,
contact Elaine Backer at embhanover@verizon.net or President Jill Kadra at
jakadra@verizon.net. For more club information and upcoming events see the
club’s website at www.hanoverwomansclubjuniors.weebly.com .
