Free parenting programs

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Thanks to the good folks in the Hanover Public Schools Guidance Department
for their connections that made the following programs happen!

The Mental Health Action Team, an arm of the Fogg Outreach Committee of the
First Parish of Norwell, is delighted to announce that two free public
programs for parents of children of all ages will be held in October of
2023.

The first program is titled “Peaceful Parenting”, and will include
strategies to help parents to:
• build an authentic and compassionate relationship with their child,
• learn how to model effective communication and thoughtful responses,
• set boundaries using structure and routine to encourage positive
behaviors,
• devise strategies for concentration, coping skills, stress management
and sleep,
• focus on your child’s strengths, building self-esteem and decision
making,
• understand the positive impacts of mindfulness, and
• create a peaceful home environment.

The “Peaceful Parenting” session will be held Sunday, October 15th from
11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Meeting House of First Parish of Norwell,
24 River Street in Norwell.

The second program is titled “Anxiety and Stress Management” will take
a deeper dive into parenting children with anxiety and provide strategies
for stress management. It will be held Sunday, October 22nd from 11:30
a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Meeting House of First Parish of Norwell, 24 River
Street in Norwell.

“We are excited to host these programs with Educational Psychologist
Linda Price”, said First Parish of Norwell’s Mental Health Action Team
member Cathy Harder-Bernier. “Linda came to us through our connections
with the Hanover Public School’s Guidance Department and was highly
recommended by them. We’ve seen her in action since then and know that
she will bring valuable information and skills to parents of children of
all ages”, Harder-Bernier continued.

Both programs will be simulcast on Zoom for those unable to attend in
person. Join the Zoom Meetings (both sessions at this same Zoom address a
week apart) at

The Mental Health Action Team, an arm of the First Parish of Norwell’s
Fogg Outreach Committee, was newly formed in June of 2022 in response to
the challenges faced by all of us as we negotiated the pandemic and finally
began to normalize discussions regarding mental health challenges. The
Team meets several times a year for an hour at a time – usually on Sunday
afternoons and via Zoom – and receives generous funding from the Fogg
Outreach Committee. All are welcome to attend our programs and/or our
meetings. Previous programs have included sessions on dementia, on “In
our Own Voice” with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and
regarding suicide and depression awareness with the Samaritans and Families
for Depression Awareness. For more information, go to:
