Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The application period is now open for the Town of Hanover Summer
Internship for the Summer of 2026. Strong preference is given to students
and graduates of Hanover High School, South Shore Vocational Technical High
School, and those who live in Hanover and attend/attended private high
schools. Special note: those who are “college aged” but are not
currently enrolled in a college/university are still eligible and will be
considered be it if they are in trade schools or still exploring what is
next for them in life.
This isn’t a fetch coffee and file paperwork internship (although let’s
be honest there is a little of that!). Summer interns are engaged in high
level work that has included in the past: providing the financial analysis
and making recommendations to the Select Board for water rates, providing
analysis in support of the Transfer Station Enterprise Fund, interviewing
and selecting consultants for Hanover’s Municipal Aggregation program,
creating the Town of Hanover Welcome Packet, work at the police station
after obtaining certifications from state and national criminal justice
information centers, and much, much more.
This summer, amongst other tasks and projects that will be assigned,
interns will help Hanover prepare activities for the 300th celebration (in
advance of Summer 2027).
Interested candidates for the Town of Hanover Summer Internship program
must submit the following:
1. Cover letter detailing in 500 words your interest in this program;
2. Resume;
3. Letter of reference from a professor/teacher, coach, previous employer,
guidance counselor, etc.;
4. The application period for the 2026 Town of Hanover Summer Internship
will end on March 20, 2026; hiring decisions will be made in early April
(after interviews, etc.)
5. Please email all application requirements to
joseph.colangelo@hanover-ma.gov.

The town has typically tried to make room for three (3) interns. This has
been competitive in the past with applications reaching well beyond the
number of slots the town can provide.
Past participants in this program have found it to be engaging,
challenging, fun!, and an excellent resume builder for future endeavors.
