This free training is a great opportunity for residents of all ages, public
safety personnel, and weather enthusiasts to learn how to identify and
report severe weather conditions—including thunderstorms, tornadoes,
flooding, and more.
Training offered by the National Weather Service SKYWARN program teaches
participants how to identify, observe, and report severe weather. The class
covers topics such as thunderstorm development, storm structure,
recognizing dangerous weather features (like tornadoes, hail, and
flooding), and how to safely and accurately report what you see to
meteorologists.

The benefit of the training is that it prepares attendees to serve as the
“eyes and ears” of the NWS—providing real-time, ground-level
information that radar and technology alone can’t capture. These reports
help meteorologists issue faster and more accurate warnings, ultimately
helping protect lives and property in the community.

Open to anyone interested.
Why attend?
• Learn directly from meteorologists
• Help keep your community safe
• Become part of a nationwide network of trained weather spotters
No prior experience is necessary, just an interest in weather and community
safety!
