David Traggorth, candidate for re-election to the Planning Board

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Below please find David Traggorth’s candidate information sheet. Mr.
Traggorth is running unopposed for re-election to a five-year term on the
Planning Board.

“NAME: Dave Traggorth
OFFICE SEEKING: Planning Board (5 Year)
ADDRESS: 159 Broadway
TELEPHONE NUMBER: 617-817-2520
LENGTH OF RESIDENCY: 10 years

Please list relevant experience (education, vocation, etc.) you feel will
be useful in the office you are seeking.

As founder and principal of Causeway Development, I’ve spent my career
working in housing and community development, helping towns across
Massachusetts build successful, well-planned neighborhoods. My work
involves partnering with towns to plan housing and infrastructure
investments, access state and federal grants, and balance the needs of
neighborhoods with the realities of growth.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Furman
University in South Carolina and a Master’s in Community Planning from
the University of Maryland School of Architecture. I’ve served on the
Hanover Planning Board since 2020, first as an Associate Member and now as
a full Member for the past year. I live with my wife and three children in
the Four Corners neighborhood. I’m also Co-Chair of Hanover Winterfest,
Treasurer at First Parish Norwell, and a Board Member at Cardinal Cushing
Centers. Given my professional background in real estate, I think it’s
also important to note that I do not own any property in Hanover other than
our primary home and will not as long as I serve on the Board.

What are the major issues confronting the town which involve your office?
Please express your opinion on these issues and how you propose to deal
with them.

Revenue and Fiscal Sustainability: We cannot cut our way to a sustainable
future while maintaining the schools, services, and safety that Hanover
residents expect. Nor can we endlessly increase property taxes on
residents. Hanover’s future long-term economic stability depends on
growing our tax base—that means supporting the evolving needs of our
current businesses, supporting appropriately scaled business development,
and encouraging good use of underdeveloped parcels through planning. I
supported passing the MBTA Communities Act required bylaws so that we could
access state grant funding, and now the Planning and Select Boards
alongside our representatives at state level need to strategically plan and
do the legwork to compete for those funds and bring them home.

Expanding Housing Options: We need more housing options — for seniors
looking to downsize, for younger families just starting out, and for every
level of affordability. Diversifying our housing stock does not have to
mean building massive apartment complexes — it means using zoning to
encourage thoughtful, well-designed homes that meet current needs. Our
planning should reflect the real needs of Hanover residents and businesses.

Why are you running for this office?

Hanover has never stood still. We have grown and adapted across generations
— from shipbuilding and mills along the North River, to a rail line to
Four Corners, to an airport in West Hanover, to the construction of Route 3
and a mall. Our future will look different than our past. The question is:
will we use our resources to shape that future, or to wage a futile fight
against it? I’m running for the Board because I bring a perspective that
is rooted in real world experience. I believe we can be proactive, smart,
and strategic. We can plan for growth that supports young people, families,
and seniors, strengthens our schools, and protects what makes Hanover
special. That’s the kind of planning I want to continue help making a
reality. ”
