by Step Guide to the Special Education Process

Essential Information for Parents
Do you know your Basic Rights?

Description:  Every parent dealing with special education
has questions.  For instance, one question might be, what is required
under the law?  What testing should be done and within what time frame?
 What are my child’s rights?  Popular and successful special
education advocates, Maureen Finaldi and Carolyn Kain will try to answer your
questions during this workshop.  The presentation will cover federal and
state laws related to special education.  You will also learn about
eligibility determination, various types of evaluations, optional assessments,
timelines, independent evaluations and IEP development.  Helpful resources
will also be provided.

Maureen Finaldi, M.S.,  Special Education Advocate,  FCSN Trained
Advocate
Maureen is a trainer for the Federation for Children with Special Needs, Member
of Mass PAC, Council for Parent Advocates and Attorney’s (COPAA), and the
Special Needs Advocacy Network (SPAN).

Carolyn Kain,
Attorney
Carolyn specializes in special education law.  She is a trainer for
the Federation for Children with Special Needs.  She is also trained in
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and in Picture Exchange Communication System
(PECS).
