Avoid the LATE fees – license your dog today! Late fees begin this Monday, April 1st!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Avoid the LATE fees – license your dog today! Late fees begin this Monday,
April 1st!

Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier reminded residents that 2019
Town of Hanover dog licenses are still available on-line, by mail, or in
the Hanover Town Clerk’s Office. The licensing period is January 1, 2019
– March 31, 2019, and a $10 late fee applies beginning April 1, 2019.
All dogs over the age of 6 months are required by law to be licensed. The
license is good for one year, and costs $10 for spayed or neutered dogs,
and $15 for intact dogs. Residents over the age of 70 will be given a free
license for their vaccinated dog upon proof of the owner’s age.

In an effort to make this process easy for residents, there are several
ways to license your dog:
• The easiest way is on-line via a link on the Town Clerk’s section of
the Town of Hanover’s website, which is also here:
https://townforms.com/TownForms/public/Login/BusinessUserLogin.aspx?ch=FB41A7C6E5AFCA94A2F2D9044860C90E&rtn=%2fpublic%2fforms%2fformViewer.aspx%3fch%3dFB41A7C6E5AFCA94A2F2D9044860C90E%26fn%3dSHDogLicense
. If your dog is currently registered in Hanover, you will just need
his/her current tag number to find your on-line record. Set up an account
and pay on-line without leaving the comfort of your home! Almost one-third
of Hanover residents now license their dogs on-line – try it out!
• Residents may also fill out the dog license application that is found
on the Town Clerk’s section of the Town of Hanover’s website at:
https://www.hanover-ma.gov/sites/hanoverma/files/uploads/hanover_dog_license_application_revised_with_on-line_payment_info.pdf
. This is the same application that was included in the census this year.
Completed forms may be mailed in with your payment, proof of current rabies
vaccination and proof of spaying or neutering (if you have not submitted
that information previously) to: Town Clerk’s Office, 550 Hanover Street,
Hanover, MA 02339, and your tag will be mailed back to you.
• As has always been the case, dog licenses may also be obtained in
person at the Town Clerk’s Office during normal business hours. Please
bring the same paperwork – current rabies vaccination, proof of
spaying/neutering if you have not submitted that information previously,
and your cash or check payable to the Town of Hanover. PLEASE REMEMBER
THAT WE CLOSE AT 8:00 P.M. ON WEDNESDAYS, 4:00 P.M. ON MONDAYS, TUESDAYS,
AND THURSDAYS, AND 12 NOON ON FRIDAYS!

Unlicensed dogs are subject to a minimum of a $25 fine, with an additional
$25 fine if unleashed and another fine of $50 if unvaccinated for rabies.
Don’t delay; get your dog’s license today! Late fees begin April 1st!

If you have questions or need more information about the licensing of your
dog in Hanover, please call the Town Clerk’s Office at (781) 826-5000
x1079 or e-mail catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov or
meg.pallotta@hanover-ma.gov . Kennel owners are encouraged to call or stop
in also, as their licensing process requires an inspection and other
additional reviews and paperwork.

Temporary Town Clerk announcements

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier today sought to assure the
public that the 2019 Annual Town Election will be run with the utmost
integrity, just as she does her job every day. “As the chief election
official for the Town of Hanover, one of the most important parts of my job
is to ensure that all of our elections are run according to Massachusetts
General Laws, and with the highest standards of professionalism and
honor”, said Harder-Bernier. “Accordingly, today I am announcing the
appointments of Ms. Narice Casper, Town Clerk of Marshfield, and Mr. Andrew
Dowd, Town Clerk of Northborough, as Temporary Town Clerks for the Town of
Hanover on Election Day, Saturday, May 11, 2019. They will be assisted by
Temporary Assistant Town Clerk Patricia Detterman, Assistant Town Clerk of
Plympton”, continued Harder-Bernier.

Town Clerk Harder-Bernier went on to explain, “As the elected Town Clerk
of Hanover, I am running for re-election in 2019, and have already
qualified for the ballot. Despite the fact that there is an exemption in
the law that permits Town Clerks to perform election-related functions, I
understand that I will be a walking campaign sign on Election Day, and that
my presence inside the polls on Election Day could be construed by some to
be a conflict of interest. Therefore, I will enter the polls briefly
during the day only to vote, as any other resident of the town would.
Otherwise, I will remain outside the 150-foot no-electioneering line all
morning, afternoon, and evening on the 11th.”

Town Clerk Narice Casper of Marshfield will have complete control of the
election, including the ballots, all day on May 11th. Town Clerk Andrew
Dowd of Northborough, whose town already owns Elections Systems and
Software’s DS200’s, the same voting tabulators that the Town of Hanover
just purchased, will be on site to advise and assist election workers and
voters with the new machines as needed. Plympton Assistant Town Clerk
Patricia Detterman will be there to support Ms. Casper and Mr. Dowd as
necessary, and is also legally authorized to act in a Town Clerk’s place
when needed.

The Town of Hanover will also be served on Election Day by long-time
Hanover Wardens Lois Crocker, Kathy Fanning, Carol Mattes and Rick Mattes,
along with dozens of well trained and seasoned election workers. Each of
the Wardens is responsible for one of the four precincts during the day.
“I have complete faith in all of our election workers to run a fair and
responsible election, and with the same deep sense of integrity that I
bring to the polls when I am there. This extra layer of supervision, and
my absence from inside the polls, serves to reassure everyone that the May
2019 election results will be completely fair and accurate”, concluded
Harder-Bernier.

Questions regarding these arrangements may be direct to the Hanover Town
Clerk’s Office, (781) 826-5000, x1079, the Marshfield Town Clerk’s
Office, (781) 834-5540, the Northborough Town Clerk’s Office at (508)
393-5001, or the Plympton Town Clerk’s Office at (781) 585-3220.
