Hanover Girl Scouts Registration Night
Monday September 18th
6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
John Curtis Free Library, Large meeting room downstairs

Hanover Girl Scouts is a great way for girls to meet new friends, give back
to the community and have fun. All girls in grades K-12 are invited to
join!

With the guidance of adult volunteers, Girl Scouts earn badges, explore the
outdoors, attend fun events and field trips, and participate in the Girl
Scout Cookie program.

Parents are also encouraged to register as adult volunteers and troop
leaders! Members of the Hanover Service Unit Leadership Team will be
available to answer all your questions.

CORI forms will be available for adult volunteers.

If you’re getting close to Medicare eligibility, this seminar is for you.
Whether you are planning to retire or will continue to work, or helping a
parent or friend, it’s important to know your Medicare options.

Did you know that missing your Medicare enrollment deadlines could cost you
money? Medicare can be confusing, so they designed this seminar to help you
be confident you’re making the right health coverage decisions.

What will Planning for Medicare — Countdown to 65 cover? This seminar is
a presentation and discussion led by a knowledgeable Blue Cross Blue Shield
of Massachusetts representative. They’ll be sure to answer your specific
questions, in addition to covering these topics:
• Explanation of Medicare Parts A, B, and C
• Medicare enrollment timeline
• Medigap plans that help supplement Medicare coverage
• Medicare Advantage plans, such as HMOs and PPOs
• Medicare Part D prescription drug plans
• Plans and programs available to early retirees, such as COBRA

North River outing with Troop 1

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Do you have a child aged 10 and up who is interested in exploring the North
and South Rivers by pontoon boat with a naturalist to learn about the
ecology of the river? Boy Scout Troop 1 has organized an outing through
the Estuary Explorers program with the NSRWA for children ages 10 and up
who are interested in learning about the North River with Boy Scout Troop
1. The outing is THIS SUNDAY afternoon (September 17, 2017). If you have
a son interested in joining them on this outing, please email scoutmaster
Jeff Jasie at ssknight77x@yahoo.com. Space is limited.

If your child can’t make this outing but would like to learn more about
Boy Scouts you are welcome to join Troop 1 any Tuesday evening at Riley
Hall (17 Silver Street) at 7:00 p.m. for their weekly meetings. You can

Norma’s Journey

Norma Sides, a long time resident of Hanover, is an author, visual artist,
singer, mother, grandmother and lover of humankind.

She will be presenting an exhibit of her artwork, and a brief talk about
her book, Norma’s Journey.

The event will take place at the John Curtis Library in Hanover.

Just for Teens art exhibit and awards reception

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The awards reception for Just for Teens, a juried art exhibit, is this
Friday, September 15, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.! Please join the Friends
of the John Curtis Library at the library to celebrate the 2 & 3D works of
Hanover’s talented teens. 25 pieces are currently on display through
September 30 in the large room, downstairs at the library.

Light refreshments will be served. This show is sponsored by the Friends of
the John Curtis Free Library and supported in part by a grant from the

Special celebration at the Library

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Join the Trustees and Friends of the John Curtis Free Library on Monday,
September 18, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the library for a
special celebration!

Meet and chat with the new director, Dana Mastroianni;

share in the unveiling of the illuminated case given by the Friends of the
Library and the Hanover Cultural Council that will house a rare collection
of Japanese watermark papers presented to the library by Thomas Tindale;

and view the permanent installation of the historic Hanover quilt given to
the library by the family of Barbara Barker Kemp.

Donate your used eclipse sunglasses

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Senior Girl Scout Troop 80337 is collecting your used eclipse
glasses for Astronomers Without Borders. The glasses will be inspected for
safety and then distributed to schools across Asia and South America in
time for the 2019 solar eclipse that will be visible there. Donation bins
will be available at the John Curtis Free Library, downstairs at Town Hall,
HMS, Cedar and Center Schools until the end of September. Thank you very
much for your donation!

Emergency preparedness begins at home

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Emergency Preparedness Begins at Home (light lunch to follow at 12 noon)

When: Tuesday, September 19 at 11:00 a.m.

Where: Hanover Senior Center, 665 Center Street

Disaster can strike at any time, so it’s important to have a planned
response when you’re at home, work, on vacation or on the road.

Join the good folks at the Senior Center as Dawn Sibor presents an
“Emergency Preparedness Begins at Home” program for elders. This is an
interactive presentation and demonstration with information, tools and
resources for elders. She has done this previously in Hanover as well as
other communities multiple times per year. She has done these trainings
for those with low vision, elders, those who live in public senior and
community housing, supportive living communities and for many other
residents. Pizza and salad will be served and Dawn will have some free
emergency supplies to hand out. To reserve your spot, please call
781-924-1913 or email: Teresa.slight@hanover-ma.gov by September 12.

Third Annual Jimmy Fund Yard Sale
