Seasonal Influenza Vaccine Clinic

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Flu is unpredictable. Even healthy children and adults can get flu and it
can be serious. Protect yourself and those around you by getting your flu
vaccine this season. Flu vaccination is the best protection available
against flu.

Everyone 6 months and older should get a yearly flu vaccine to reduce the
risk of flu related illness, hospitalization, and even death.

The Hanover Board of Health has scheduled a flu vaccine clinic to be held
at:
Hanover High School, Cafeteria
287 Cedar Street
Tuesday, October 10, 2017
2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Please note – the Board of Health will be offering 2 formulations of flu
vaccine this year:

~High-Dose (HD) specifically for ages 65 and older, a trivalent vaccine
formulated for older adults

~Quadrivalent vaccine, which provides protection against 4 strains of flu
virus for ages 6 months and up.

All persons will be asked to present an insurance card, which will cover
the cost of the flu shot. No one will be turned away on the basis of
insurance eligibility. Please remember to wear short sleeves.

For additional information, please contact Nancy Funder, Public Health
Nurse at Nancy.funder@hanover-ma.gov .

Hanover VNA news

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The week of October 2nd through October 7th, 2017 has been proclaimed
Hanover Visiting Nurses Week.

The Hanover Visiting Nurse Association will launch their annual fund drive
starting the week of October 2nd. The annual fund drive helps support
camperships, scholarships, clinics (blood pressure, diabetic screening, and
flu shots), while also providing nursing services for newly released
surgical patients, chronic disease patients, and others needing advice,
sick room equipment or doctor-ordered attention. In addition, the Hanover
Visiting Nurse Association supports the community during the holidays with
our Thanksgiving Food Drive and our Holiday Gift program.

The Hanover VNA continues to keep ever present in our minds the original
mission that began on January 15, 1929: “To promote health, individual
and community, to prevent disease and to provide nursing care for the sick
in their homes”. “Coming together”, meant a beginning, “working
together”, meant progress, and “keeping together”, would mean
success.

The HVNA thanks you for your past generosity and continued support as they
work to steadily maintain and improve the health of Hanover’s citizens.

Jimmy Fund Yard Sale update and thanks

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This just in from a grateful Light Family!

“Sunday, September 24th our family and neighbors laced up our sneakers to
walk along the world-renowned Boston Marathon course in the 2017 Boston
Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. It was a beautiful day for a walk. Our family
committed to raise at least $5000. We’ve set our goal high because we know
1st hand that the money raised is crucial to the innovative cancer research
and exceptional patient care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Jimmy Fund
Clinic. Our daughter Alison was diagnosed with Stage 4 Germ Cell Yolk Sak
Tumors in September 2014, and the care we received immediately from Dana
Farber and Boston Children’s Hospital far exceeded our expectations.
Within a 24 hour period we were told our then 3 year old daughter had
cancer and after hours of testing we were told that her cancer was
treatable and even curable – music to our ears. Alison is still under
the care of an Oncology Team at Dana Farber and has regular checkups at the
Jimmy Fund Clinic and yearly scans. She continues to be cancer free and we
walk in honor of her and all the children that will follow.

Our town of Hanover rallied around our family that year with love, support,
help … and Hanover you continue to show up – we are happy to report that
our little Jimmy Fund Yard Sale (on September 9th) raised about $2000 for
the Jimmy Fund Walk. Thank you to everyone that donated “awesome
stuff” to sell. Thank you to those who helped with set up, take down and
to those who made several trips to Savers afterward! Finally, thank you to
those who stopped by to shop. We couldn’t do this without you.

Cancer touches all of us. Our family is doing our part to help conquer this
disease and with your help, we can move closer to the ultimate finish line:
a world without cancer.

Thank you again for your support and generosity!
The Light Family (Dan, Amanda, Sam and Alison)

Chess Club for kids – today!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This just in! Are your kids interested in playing chess or learning to
play? Some local 2nd graders are looking to start a club. The initial
meeting will be at the library on Monday, September 25th from 5 – 6 p.m.
This time will be used to gauge interest and see what day/time works best
for the future. The plan would be for the club to meet once a month. It
would be interactive with parents and kids helping each other to learn to
play as well as more experienced players having a chance to play against
one another. Feel free to bring your chess sets on Monday so the kids can
play while the adults iron out the details for future meeting times.

For more information, or if you are unable to make it today, please contact
Kelly Newman Gilroy at kl_newman@yahoo.com .
