Leo Dwyer, gourd craftsman, to speak

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

For thousands of years, all over the world, gourds have been used as
utilitarian vessels. Historically, many cultures decorated these
containers, giving rise to the embellishment of gourds as an art form.
Here in New England, we are fortunate to have a craftsman who is actively
carrying on this tradition and sharing his artistic gourd work with the
community. Leo Dwyer of Scituate, who learned this craft from the
executive director of Oklahoma’s Museum of the Great Plains, has spent
years honing his craft. He was featured in the October 2014 issue of South
Shore Living and has won numerous awards at the South Shore Arts Festival.
Mr. Dwyer is one of very few people preserving this craft in the United
States today.

The Hanover Garden Club will host Leo Dwyer as the guest speaker at their
upcoming meeting on Thursday, April 20, at 12:30. Mr. Dwyer will explain
his methods and exhibit some of his unique and beautiful bowls, vases,
pitchers, and other art works. The meeting will take place at the Phoenix
Lodge, 133 Broadway, at Hanover’s Four Corners. The public is welcome to
attend this free presentation.

Red Sox tickets auction

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

What are you doing on Sunday? Want to go see the Sox play? Four Red Sox
tickets have been donated for another on-line auction right here on
“Around Town on the Web” – this time to benefit a new scholarship in
Hanover. 100% of the proceeds of the auction will go to a deserving Hanover
senior in the name of Honey Dew Donuts AND the highest bidder! The tickets
are great seats (Field Box 10, Row L, seats 1, 2, 3 and 4), for the game on
Sunday, April 16, 2017, game starting at 1:35 p.m., when the Red Sox will
play—and we hope soundly defeat—the Tampa Bay Rays. The face value of
the tickets is $122 each ($488 for all four).

For those who are relatively new to this list, here’s how it works.
Bidding will begin at $250 (total) for the four tickets immediately, and
will be accomplished simply by sending an e-mail to cathyhb@atotw.com .
Once you enter a bid, you will be added to the distribution list that will
keep you updated on the latest bid (as best as humanly possible!). Bids
will be accepted until exactly 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13th. If two
bids for the same amount are received, the earlier bid will take
precedence. So, it is to your advantage to bid your best price early. Bids
received by me after 6:00 p.m. (computer clock time) on Thursday will not
be considered.

So don’t wait until it is too late! Bid now to see the Red Sox on Sunday,
April 16th and help raise money for a deserving Hanover student all at the
same time!
It’s a win-win!
