Jeans for teens

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Congrats to two Hanover High students, Gabby Manupelli and JuliAna Picardi,
for bringing this program to Hanover:

For the ninth year, Aéropostale and DoSomething.org are partnering to run
the largest jeans drive in the nation. By organizing drives in their
schools and communities, teens collect gently used jeans. Each store is
paired with one or more local homeless shelter(s) to distribute the jeans
to teens in need. Over 1,000 shelters across the U.S. and Canada will be
participating! This year, the campaign will run until February 29 2016.

Why It’s Important: Between 2.3 and 3.5 million Americans experience
homelessness annually. Included in that group are more than 1.5 million
teens and children. • People entering a homeless shelter often don’t
have more than the clothes they’re wearing. In fact, the number one item
that young people request when they visit a homeless shelter is a pair of
jeans – jeans can be worn multiple times before washing and are an
important item of clothing to help everyone fit in.

Please help them to help those less fortunate. Jeans can be dropped off at
Hanover High School and the John Curtis Library. For more information
please contact Gabrielle Manupelli (gmanupelli17@hanoverstudents.org) or
JuliAna Picardi (jpicardi17@hanoverstudents.org).

Cub Scouts say thanks!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This just in from the Cub Scouts of Pack 39!

“The Cub Scouts and families of Pack 39 would like to express our sincere
appreciation to the residents of Hanover, all the town employees and
volunteers that made our annual Christmas Tree Pick-up a huge success.
Your continued support allows us to provide a rich and varied program
experience for the cub scouts and their families. Your contributions allow
us to fund educational programs including: Hug-a-Tree survival, Birds of
Prey, Lizards and Reptiles, The Bee Man and South Shore Nature Center.
They also enjoy unique camping experiences at Battleship Cove, aboard the
USS Salem in Quincy and Camp Greenough!

A special thank you goes to Shawn Gokey at the DPW for opening the Ames way
facility for our home base!

Without the generous assistance of the following local businesses, our
fundraiser could not happen. They send drivers who donate their Saturday
morning, as well as fuel and a helping hand. Shop local and help us
support these businesses in return!

Last day to register to vote or change your party status

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced that Wednesday,
February 10th is the last day to register to vote or change your party
status for the upcoming Presidential Primary. Town Hall will be open from
8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on the 10th.

Any Hanover citizen who will be eighteen on or before the Election Day is
encouraged to register to vote. Once registered, individuals will be
eligible to vote in the Presidential Primary scheduled to be held on
Tuesday, March 1st, 2016, and in elections thereafter. Any resident who is
unsure of their party affiliation, or who would like to change their party
status, is also encouraged to act immediately and before the February 10th
deadline.

Citizens of Hanover may conveniently register to vote or change their party
status on-line, by mail or in person. The link for on-line registration is
here: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/OVR . If residents choose to register
by mail they should download the “Massachusetts Mail-In Voter
Registration Form” found here :
https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/elepdf/Voter-reg-mail-in.pdf and mail the
completed form to the Hanover Town Clerk’s Office.

If voters wish to register to vote in person, they may do so at two
convenient locations: Hanover Town Hall or the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

“With four political parties and therefore four ballots at the polls,
residents are strongly encouraged to check their party status before
February 10th,” said Town Clerk Harder-Bernier. According to Secretary
of the Commonwealth William Francis Galvin, “When you register to vote,
you may choose to enroll in a political party or political designation or
may choose to remain ‘unenrolled,’ which is commonly referred to as
independent…if you enroll in any of (the) four parties you may only vote
in that party’s primary.”

Questions may be directed to Hanover Town Clerk Cathy Harder-Bernier at
(781) 826-5000 x1079 or by e-mail at Catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov
, or Senior Registrar Nancy Goldthwait at (781) 826-5000 x1082 or
nancy.goldthwait@hanover-ma.gov .

Thanks from the Hanover VNA

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Visiting Nurse Association would like to thank everyone for
their successful Annual Fund Drive. Through your generosity they are able
to continue to provide professional nursing care in the home of any
resident requiring assistance. All residents of Hanover can avail
themselves of their services, regardless of age or circumstances. The
Agency holds regular health and maintenance clinics, often in conjunction
with the Hanover Board of Health. They are able to award scholarships to
deserving students pursuing a career in nursing or the health care
industry. They award camperships to children for the Summer Park and
Recreation Day Camp. They also assist families with the distribution and
delivery of food and gifts at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The HVNA is grateful for the continued support through their fund drive and
from the support of the schools, churches, organizations as well as many
local businesses and residents throughout the year. Without all of your
generous donations, they would be unable to provide our residents with the
care needed, medically and socially.

For more information about the Hanover VNA, please contact President Jane
Beal at drbjeb1981@verizon.net .
