Garden Club Fashion Show

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Garden Club invites the community to “Spring into Summer” with
a fashion show at 1:30, Thursday, May 19. The venue is the Clubhouse at the
Elms, 68 American Elms Drive in Hanover. The event will feature the unique
styles of Chico’s from the Derby Street Shoppes. In addition to the
fashion show, there will be drawings for items created by local craftsmen.
Light refreshments will be served. Tickets are on sale now for $20.00 per
person.

Proceeds from the event will support community beautification,
conservation, and education by the Hanover Garden Club. Founded in 1929,
the Hanover Garden Club has a long-standing history of service to the town.
Victory Gardens during World War II, cherry trees planted along Route 139,
planting and maintenance of traffic islands, herb gardening at the historic
Stetson House, and establishment of scholarships are only a few examples.

With the “Spring into Summer” event, the Hanover Garden Club is pleased to
partner with Chico’s, well-known nationwide fashion boutiques. From one
small boutique in Sanibel Island Florida, Chico’s has evolved since 1983
into over 700 shops throughout America. The hallmarks of great style,
one-of-a-kind details, and warm, personal service have made Chico’s a
favorite with women who value flattering designs and quality clothing. The
Hanover Garden Club looks forward to showcasing Chico’s new collection for
spring and summer.

To obtain tickets, please call 781-878-2114.

Write-in candidates at Town Meeting?

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This e-mail is in response to some questions that were raised last night
and this morning in my office. To be clear, candidates for local or state
office ARE allowed to campaign inside the Hanover High School cafeteria
(but outside the auditorium) tonight during the second night of town
meeting.

Come to Town Meeting tonight and see who is running for the write-in
positions for Assessors, Board of Health, or the 3 year term on the
Planning Board. The deadline for district/county nomination paper
signatures to be turned in is today, so those folks will be gone, but our
local office candidates just might be active!

Annual Town Election

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Annual Town Election of our local officers begins this coming Saturday,
May 7th, at 8:00 a.m. at Hanover High School’s gymnasium.

On the ballot this year are 10 open seats: Board of Assessors (3 year
term), Board of Health (3 year term), Board of Public Works (3 year term),
Board of Selectmen (3 year term), Moderator (1 year term), Planning Board
(5 year term), Planning Board (3 year term), School Committee (3 year
term), Town Clerk (3 year term), and Trustee of the Public Library (3 year
term).

There are declared candidates running for 7 of those seats; three seats
(Assessors, Health, and 3 year Planning Board) will therefore be determined
by write-in votes. There are two contested races – School Committee and
Board of Selectmen – each have two candidates running.

For a complete listing of the seats available and the candidates running
for those seats, go to:
http://www.hanover-ma.gov/sites/hanoverma/files/file/file/town_election_2016_candidates.pdf
. Further information about the candidates may be made available in this
space later this week if I receive it by Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Hanover
Woman’s Club Junior’s Candidate’s Night continues to be re-broadcast
regularly on Hanover Community Access TV. The schedule may be found here:
http://hanoverctv.org/schedule.htm .

Polls close at 6:00 p.m. Saturday night. Unofficial results are always
announced outside the gym within a half hour of the close of the polls.

If you will be out of town and need an absentee ballot, your application
has to be received in the Town Clerk’s Office by noon on Friday the 6th.

For more information, please contact me, Town Clerk Catherine
Harder-Bernier, at clerk@hanover-ma.gov, or my office at (781) 826-5000
x1079.

See you Saturday!
