ALS Ice Bucket Challenge for one of Hanover’s own

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Come support Hanover’s own Kevin Gosnell in his fight to find a cure for
ALS! Kevin is a long-time Hanover resident, graduate of the Hanover
schools, husband, and father of three sons. He is also the owner of T&K
Sealing, a company he started with a friend right after high school. A
tremendously kind, dedicated, hard-working, passionate person, Kevin has
generously donated to many organizations in the town over the years, and
could use our support, as he was recently diagnosed with ALS. Let’s join
him in the Ice Bucket Challenge at B. Everett Hall Field (near Sylvester
School in the center of town) on Wednesday, August 26th from 6:00 p.m. –
8:00 p.m.!

Ice, buckets and water will all be provided. There will be an ice cream
truck, sausage truck and a 50/50 raffle.

If anyone wants more information or to donate ahead of time, please go to
AlsKnights.org . Kevin is featured in two videos on the website currently.

A portion of all the donations raised by ALS Knights will go two places:
1. To further fund ALS research to help find a treatment and a cure
2. To assist individuals and families living in the community with ALS

In the US, about 5,600 people are diagnosed with the condition every year,
with an estimated 30,000 living with ALS at any one moment. The average
life expectancy is 2 – 5 years. There is currently NO treatment or cure
for ALS, NO drugs to take, NO surgeries to undergo, and absolutely NO
effective treatment! This is simply an underfunded disease that requires
further research.
There are many supplies and services needed at home that people living with
ALS require but insurance does not cover. ALS is an incapacitating disease
that robs many people the ability to independently shower, eat, walk, climb
stairs and get dressed. Many people become confined to their house or even
their bed without the proper equipment to move. Devices like power
wheelchairs, commodes, ramps, and lifts to get out of bed are not covered
by insurance. Many families are financially strapped because the patient is
disabled by ALS and unable to work.
We can give assistance by providing the proper equipment they may need to
continue to live at home. ALS Knight’s goal is to help care for those
suffering with ALS.

For more information, please contact Chrissy Rinkus at
chrissyrinkus@msn.org .

Yard sale to benefit the Jimmy Fund

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Help Support the Light Family with a Jimmy Fund Yard Sale

Hanover’s own Light Family and their neighbors will be having a
multi-family yard sale this Saturday, 8/15, from 8:00 – 2:00 p.m. The
location of the sale will be the two corners of Maplewood Drive and
Larchmont Lane (GPS – 143 Maplewood Drive). All of the proceeds of this
yard sale will go to their Jimmy Fund Walk, occurring this September. Their
goal is to raise and donate at least $1,000 to the Jimmy Fund Walk. This is
a great way for the Lights and the community to say thank you to the Jimmy
Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, as it has been Ali Light’s lifeline
to her exceptional cancer care and treatment.

Items at the sale will include kid’s clothing, toys, household items,
sporting equipment, a swing set, furniture, home décor and home
furnishings.

If you’re unable to attend the yard sale and you’d like to make a donation
directly to Amanda Light’s page –

Reading aloud to chickens is lots of fun! That’s right–chickens! A
Naturalist from the South Shore Natural Science Center will be visiting the
library on Tuesday, August 11 at 2:00 p.m. with several cages of feathered
friends. Families and fowl will listen to stories presented by the
Naturalist, followed by an up-close visit with the chickens. Then visitors
will have the opportunity to read to a friendly flock member in its cage. A
fun way to practice reading! All ages are welcome and no registration is
necessary.

For more information, call 781-826-2972, extension 4, or e-mail the

August 27. Children who will be entering kindergarten in the fall can meet
a bus driver, learn about bus rules and go for a ride. Come at 10:30 a.m.
to listen to some stories about school buses; the bus will arrive at eleven
o’clock. There will be a brief trip to both elementary schools and then
back to the library.
