Hanover Day!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I just went looking for some Hanover Day information and was once again
amazed at the extent and depth of the festivities planned for next weekend.
Go to www.hanoverday.com for an overview of this year’s events. Kudos to
the planning committee for all of their hard work!

The carnival kicks things off on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. Of particular
note, Malcolm Butler, last minute interception hero of the Patriots’ win
over the Seahawks in the Super Bowl, will be in attendance on Saturday.
Home-grown Hanover talent will be featured on the stage all day long,
including some some of my personal favorites – Peter Scribner, Jill Benway,
Madison Fitzpatrick, Lindsay Glover, the Perry Family, Emily Bartone, and
the phenomenally talented Hanover Jazz Ensemble. Over 140 artisans,
vendors and civic groups will display their wares. Community art projects,
pony rides, a 3 on 3 hoop tournament, my favorite strolling magician John
Logan, a dunk tank and a photo booth will add to the day’s fun. Jackson
Weatherbee and the fireworks will headline Saturday night, along with
return appearances from Hanover boys Tyler Cheo and Myles Sweeney. Will
Alex Sennett be there? Only one way to find out…see you there!

For the complete schedule, go to
http://www.hanoverday.com/2015-schedule-of-events .

What happened at Town Meeting?

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Would you like to know what happened at Town Meeting? Were you out of
town, or perhaps were only able to make it to one of the two nights? Or
maybe you just plain forgot how we voted on an issue that is now of
interest to you.

Thanks to requests from two of Hanover’s most interested citizens, I as
Town Clerk have now started to post the “Town Meeting Journals” on the
Town’s website. Those records are now found here:
http://www.hanover-ma.gov/town-clerk/pages/town-meeting-journals . Town
Meeting Journals eventually become part of the permanent record of the
town. In fact, I have Town Meeting records dating back to 1727 in my
office. But prior to this year, concerned citizens had to wait until the
Town Report was published in April in order to refresh their memories about
the previous May’s meeting. Well, no longer.

Thanks Ken and Jack. We all benefit from citizen input such as yours.

Serve democracy and our community

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I always leave our Memorial Day parade thankful…for our brave veterans,
devoted public safety officers, talented high school musicians, the
ingenuity of antique cars, and for our spirited community, among countless
other things. Memorial Day is genuinely a time to honor community
servants, especially those who have given so much.

In that vein, I write to offer you a chance to be a small but important
part of that community service. Every year, sometimes two or three or even
four times a year, Hanover goes to the polls to select our elected
officials. This coming fiscal year, we will choose our Presidential
nominees from each party on Super Tuesday in March of 2016, and then our
Hanover town officials in May of 2016. All of that leads up to the
September State Primary and November General Election in the following
fiscal year.

The right to vote was given to us by our forefathers and guaranteed to us
by the men and women who marched in that parade today. But the gift of
Election Day does not just magically happen. There is a great deal of work
that goes on behind the scenes and on the day of the election itself.
Would you like to be a part of implementing that gift? Would you consider
playing an important role in our democracy by working at the polls?

Your town needs you! Please see the attached job postings and consider
applying today. Appointments are on a yearly basis and applications are
due June 15th. Training information will be provided to successful
applicants. For more information, please contact me, Town Clerk Cathy
Harder-Bernier, at catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov . Or, jump in
headfirst for your chance to serve your community by sending in your cover
letter and resume to Ann Lee at ann.lee@hanover-ma.gov today!
