Historical Society plans Christmas program

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
It’s hard to believe that Christmas is just two short months away.
As many of you know, last year the Friends of the Stetson House merged
with the Hanover Historical Society to become one organization. This
year will be the first year that the Hanover Historical Society will
host a Christmas program. While the town cherishes the memories the
Friends of the Stetson House gave us over the years, the Historical
Society hopes to make the program their own, while adding different
touches.
The program will be a Festival of Trees. The event will focus on
historic themes to educate the public. For the past few months, the
Hanover Historical Society has been working on creating a new room
layout at their headquarters, the Stetson House Museum. This Museum of
Hanover History will feature a chronological tour with exhibits that
are time period accurate and interactive. This year’s program will
have very moderate Christmas decorations, allowing the museum exhibits
and collection to shine through. The tour will have costumed guides in
museum rooms talking about Christmas in Hanover’s past.
Instead of decorating the Stetson House, they are asking families,
organizations, and corporations to decorate and donate an artificial
Christmas tree of their choosing. This Christmas tree will then be
raffled off on the Sunday of the program. Proceeds will go towards the
mission of the Hanover Historical Society. Museum staff will be happy
to help regarding possible themes for your tree. They hope you will
join them in decorating a tree, and celebrating in the season of
warmth and giving.

The Pumpkin Drop…a smashing experience

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Everyone is invited to bring their Halloween pumpkins to drop too.

Drug Take Back Day in Hanover

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

*Do you have unwanted medication(s) you need to dispose of?*
* *
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (D.E.A.) is coordinating, with the
Hanover Board of Health and the Hanover Police Department, a
nationwide one-day event to take back unwanted medications on
*Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Hanover Senior Center, 665 Center
Street, Hanover, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.*

This national initiative will provide an opportunity for the public to
surrender pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications
to law enforcement officers for destruction. Expired, unused or
unwanted substances in our homes are a potential source of supply for
the increasing abuse of pharmaceutical drugs in the United States and
an unacceptable risk to public health and safety.

For more information, please contact the Board of Health at (781)
826-4611 or health@hanover-ma.gov

Box Tops for Education

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
*BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION ~ *Helps raise money for Hanover Schools!
Please help the Hanover Parent-Teacher Alliance (HPTA) raise money for
Hanover schools by clipping and collecting Box Tops for Education
found on many popular products including:
General Mills cereals

Betty Crocker products

Juicy Juice

Pillsbury products

Land-o-Lakes products

Nature Valley products

Ziploc products
Avery Office products

And MANY more!

Box Tops collection containers may be found around town in the Library
(near the Children’s Room entrance), the Senior Center, the Transfer
Station (a metal mailbox near the cardboard recycling area) and the
Cushing Residences. Box Tops deposited in these containers are
collected 3-4 times a year and added to the collections from Hanover
students. The money raised benefits the children of Hanover Schools.
Box Tops may also be brought into the Center/Sylvester, Cedar and
Middle School offices.
*Every year the HPTA raises THOUSANDS of dollars with this program! In
2012-2013 they collected nearly $10,000!*
Each Box Top is worth $.10 and they add up quickly! Our first
collection drive is happening now and throughout the month of October
so check your pantry, and drop your Box Tops off now.
Money raised helps pay for programs, services and school needs that
are not covered by the regular budget. Funds help offset field trip
expenses and special events for students. Sports equipment, books and
games are purchased. Technology equipment has been invested in and
educational support programs have been made available. Every cent goes
toward things that /directly /benefit the students of Hanover in grade
K-8. Please look for Box Tops on products you purchase, clip them,
place them in a Ziploc baggie or sealed envelope and deposit them in
one of the collection boxes around town.
*THANK YOU FOR CLIPPING AND SUPPORTING HANOVER SCHOOLS!

Hanover Parent Teacher Alliance and the Box Tops for Education Team*

McCormick at joanna_mccormick@verizon.net
