Asthma support group for Hanover kids

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Do you have a child with asthma in Hanover? Do they feel different due
to their asthma? Do they sometimes get upset and feel like they are
the only one?

Come meet other kids from Hanover in elementary school that have
asthma too. This will be a kid directed group but adults will be
present. Kids will have the opportunity to talk in a group or
individually with each other. We would also like to do some walking
together. Parents and siblings are invited to attend.

All Hanover residents in grades K-4 are welcome to come.

The first meeting will be held *Tuesday, November 5th from 2:30-3:30
pm* at John Curtis Free Library meeting room.

Please feel free to contact Darcie Daniel with any questions at
darciedaniel@gmail.com
or 781-826-4783.

Program and author at the John Curtis Library

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
On Monday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the John Curtis Library, noted
author, historian, and university teacher Steven Puleo will speak
about his latest book, /The Caning: The Assault That Drove America to
Civil War./ In May of 1856, pro-slavery Congressman Preston S. Brooks
of South Carolina entered into the United States Senate Chamber in
Washington D.C. and began beating well known anti-slavery Senator
Charles Sumner from Massachusetts with his walking cane. He struck his
cane more than thirty times across Sumner’s head, face, and
shoulders until the Senator lay unconscious and the cane was
splintered into many pieces. While Sumner eventually recovered after a
lengthy recuperation period, the gulf between the North and South
became unbridgeable and in four short years, the country was at war
with itself.

Please join the good folks at the library for an author talk followed
by an answer and question period. Books will be available for purchase
and signing.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the John Curtis Library
and there is no charge for admittance. Refreshments will be served.
Please contact Lorraine Welsh at lwelsh@ocln.org

for more information.

Ryan Family Fundraiser

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover residents and friends of the Ryan Family are cordially invited
to a fun-filled evening on Friday, October 25th at 7:00 p.m. at the
Elks Lodge, 1197 Washington Street, Rt. 53, Weymouth. Tickets are
$20.00 and will include light refreshments, a live and silent auction,
raffles, a DJ, and a cash bar.

The goal of the evening is to raise enough money to purchase a
handicap-accessible van for the Ryan Family of Hanover. Unfortunately,
there are three (two newly) handicapped people living in their
household. They now just have a sedan that makes it very difficult to
take them to their doctor and PT appointments.

Friends, neighbors and schoolmates of Ryan children Karen, Kelly,
Kevin and Kate are rallying to help them – please join in! Tickets
to the event are available now and are $20 per person. Fundraisers are
also asking for any donations to be used for the live/silent auction.
If you cannot attend and would like to make a cash or check donation,
you may do so at any Rockland Trust Bank and ask for the deposit to go
into the Ryan Family Fund.

If you have any questions or would like to purchase tickets, please
contact:
Nancy Cavallaro at (617) 529-8874 or e-mail: nawc36@aol.com

Nan MacKenzie at (617) 842-1621 or e-mail: nandmac@aol.com

attend this world class event would be $65.00, but thanks to the
generosity of the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus and their outreach program
to communities, ticket prices are a mere $15.00.
