Absentee voting application information

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The race for U. S. Senate is starting to heat up. Election Day is June
25th!
Massachusetts allows voters to vote by absentee ballot if you:
· will be absent from your city or town on election day, and/or
· have a physical disability that prevents your voting at the polling

place, and/or
· cannot vote at the polls due to religious beliefs.
You must first apply for an absentee ballot. Applications for an
absentee ballot are available here:
http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/elepdf/absentee_ballot.pdf
. You may have an absentee ballot mailed to you or you may apply and
vote in one visit in person at the Town Clerk’s Office (lower level
of Town Hall) during regular town hall business hours. Plan to visit
the office as soon as possible; the Secretary of State recommends two
to three weeks before the election (meaning now!).
The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is noon on June 24th. To
be counted, a completed ballot must be received by the time the polls
close on Election Day, Tuesday, June 25th.

For more information about absentee voting, go to
http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleifv/howabs.htm
, or contact my office at clerk@hanover-ma.gov

or (781) 826-5000, ext. 1079.

Cub Scout Bike Rodeo and Registration

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Cub Scout Packs 37 and 39 will be holding their New Scout
Registration as well as sponsoring a Bike Rodeo at Hanover Day this
year! The event will be held on June 15th from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00
p.m. on the basketball courts.

Participants will learn about the Cub Scout program. There will be
members from the packs to speak with as well as different bike
stations to participate in – an obstacle course, bike maintenance and
safety check, and rules of the road. It is recommended that
participants bring their own bike and helmet, but it is not mandatory.

Scout registration forms will be available. Boys who register and
complete all of the bike stations will fulfill the requirements for
the Bicycling belt loop.

Being a Cub Scout means you are in 1st through 5th grade, and a member
of a worldwide youth movement that stands for certain values and
beliefs. Cub Scouting is more than something to do it’s all about the
boy you are and the person you will become.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact Pack 37 Cubmaster
James Mustone at james.mustone@comcast.net

Town Clerk conference

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
I have just returned home from my first ever “Massachusetts Town
Clerk’s Association” conference and thought you might appreciate a
brief report! If not, just hit “delete”!
The Annual Summer Conference is held in Falmouth over two nights and
three days. Wednesday’s General Session was titled “National
Election Trends and Massachusetts Elections”. A professor from MIT
and the Massachusetts Director of Elections discussed issues such as
voter ID, in-person early voting, no-excuse absentee voting and lots
more. With 18 days as I write this until my first election as your
Town Clerk, that session could not have been timelier.
For my Thursday morning breakout session, I chose to continue my
education about elections by attending a session called “Hearings
before the Board of Registrars and General Election Potpourri”. My
Thursday afternoon breakout session was aptly titled “Where do I
Begin: Resources and Tools for New and Inquiring Clerks”, and
Friday’s General Session included updates from state agency
officials regarding local mandates, municipal laws, ethics, campaign
and political finance, and vital records.
Meals and evenings afforded me the opportunity to meet my neighboring
colleagues from Norwell, Rockland, Cohasset, Whitman, Duxbury and the
like, and also far-flung colleagues from places like Barre, Sudbury,
Falmouth and Lexington. I am grateful to all of you, the taxpayers of
Hanover, for supporting my endeavors and my education about my role as
your Town Clerk. It was time, energy and money very well spent and I
am particularly grateful to Town Manager Troy Clarkson and Municipal
Finance Director Janine Smith for their encouragement and budgetary
juggling so soon after my election. Extra special thanks and a shout
out to Assistant Town Clerk JoAnne O’Connor and Registrars Nancy
Goldthwait, Pam Ferguson and Kathy DiSabito for “holding down the
fort” in Town Hall in my absence, too!
