Dear fellow Hanoverians:

*April 27, 2013 Drug Take Back Day*

Thanks to the Board of Health, once again residents of Hanover and
surrounding towns have the opportunity to safely dispose of unused
prescription and over the counter medications. The U.S. Drug
Enforcement Agency (DEA), in cooperation with the Hanover Board of
Health and the Hanover Police Department, will be participating in the
nationwide drug take back day and will be providing receptacles at the
Hanover Senior Center at 665 Center Street, Hanover between 10:00 a.m.
and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27th.

Residents are strongly encouraged to identify expired, discontinued or
unwanted medications prior to April 27. Bringing these medications for
disposal can help prevent septic problems, illegal diversion, or
accidental ingestion:

1. Improperly discarded medications can end up in unintended hands.
2. Flushed medications end up in ground water supply via septic
systems.
3. Medications thrown in the transfer station pit can leak into land
fills.
4. Unused medications kept in cabinets may be accidentally ingested.
5. Expired medications can cause adverse reactions or toxic chemical
formation.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other environmental
groups warn against contamination of our water supplies and septic
systems. Antibiotics may reduce beneficial flora and promote unhealthy
organisms. Medications that are ordinarily changed by the body to
harmless states may have serious impact when discarded unchanged. It
is safest to seek routes of disposal that protect our resources.
Keeping unused drugs out of circulation also an excellent way to
protect the environment by following these suggestions:

1. Buy over the counter drugs and supplements in sensible quantities.
2. Buy new products in a smaller size before buying larger stock if
tolerated.
3. Ask your provider to provide samples or 30 day prescriptions before
filling a 90 day prescription.
4. If you have a reaction to a medication, notify your provider
immediately in time to stop unwanted refills.
5. Take all antibiotics completely as directed.
6. Keep controlled substance stock minimal to avoid drug diversion.
7. Keep medications safely stored according to pharmacy directions and
only carry enough medication on your person for immediate needs.

With everyone’s help, drug diversion and environmental contamination
can be reduced if not eliminated. Thank you for participating in safe

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Community Television (HCTV) is looking for a new visual
identity and needs your help. HCTV is seeking current Hanover
students* who can design a creative, innovative and professional logo
design. The logo should be recognizable and help promote the
organization. The rest is up to you! Please read below for more
details regarding logo design, contest rules and submission
requirements.

How to Enter the Contest
The contest began on *April 22, 2013*. Submissions will be accepted
through *June 1, 2013*. Winners will be announced via the HCTV
website, social media websites and by direct contact to the winners’
contact information provided. In order for your entry to be submitted
and reviewed by the judges, all entries must be:
1. Submitted directly to HCTV through the online link on HCTV’s
website, or by e-mail to hanoverctv@hanoverschools.org

.
2. Submitted in their original source file.
3. Submitted by a student who lives or attends school in the Town of
Hanover*.

*Hanover students include any student (K-12) who resides in the Town
of Hanover, MA or attends any of the schools that are located in
Hanover, MA.

Logo Requirements
• *Professional*: This logo may be featured on the HCTV website,
social media platforms and other mediums (stationery, pamphlets,
t-shirts etc). As a result, while they want the logo to be
eye-catching, it must still be legible.
• *Color*: There are no limitations and any colors may be used.
However, the logo must look good in color (if any) or black and white.
• *Integrity*: Logos cannot contain copyrighted material. Logos must
have been created and edited by the contestant(s). Logos may not
include images or licensed images that have been previously published.
Must be easily reproducible and scalable for large and small
formatting.

Contest Details
The Hanover Community Access Media Committee will select finalists.
The finalists’ designs will be on display at their booth at Hanover
Day where the public will vote for their favorite logo. The winning
logo will be decided based on public vote and committee vote.
Contestants agree that HCTV may publish their logo and name(s) and may
use both for advertising campaigns and/or marketing materials in the
future. Contestants assign all ownership rights, including all
intellectual property rights to the logo, to HCTV. Additionally, HCTV
may alter, modify or revise the logo as it sees necessary to achieve
the goals of the Station. HCTV reserves the right to not select a
winner if, in its sole discretion, no suitable entries are received.

Prize
Contest winner will receive a $500 scholarship (and bragging rights!).

Hanover Historical Society presents:
Saturday, May 4: Twilight Walking Tour of South Hanover Village at
7:00 p.m.

The village of South Hanover, now a quiet area, was once a bustling
place of industry with companies like Bonney Ink, Phillips Tack
Factory, Goodrich Shoe Factory, and the Thomas Drew Store. The tour
will meet at 7:00 p.m. at Station #5 Fire Station Museum at 1095
Broadway.

There will be a reception at the Fire Museum following the tour.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

On Saturday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m., singer-songwriter Bill Staines will
perform a benefit concert for the youth mission trip in the sanctuary
of the First Congregational Church, 547 Hanover Street.

For over 40 years, Bill has traveled throughout North America singing
his songs and delighting audiences. He has recorded 26 albums
(including two children’s albums), written over 300 songs, and is
one of the most popular singers on the folk circuit today. Bill has
appeared on A Prairie Home Companion*, *Public Radio’s Mountain
Stage and HBO’s award winning series Deadwood. Many artists
including Peter, Paul and Mary, Makem and Clancy, Nanci Griffith,
Mason Williams, and Glen Yarborough have recorded Bill’s songs.

Refreshments will be served at intermission. Tickets are $16 for

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Postal Workers’ Annual Food Drive is almost here again! It will be
held Election Day, Saturday, May 11, 2013. There will be a combination
of food drive volunteers and postal service workers making the rounds.
The Hanover Food Pantry is in serious need of volunteers on that day
again this year. What better way to support residents of our town in
need? Please consider volunteering at the food pantry! It is also a
great way for those who need service hours to accrue some time for a
good cause.

The good folks at the Hanover Food Pantry need:

• Drivers and gatherers (beginning as early as 10:00 a.m. or anytime
up through 3:00 p.m.) to go out on assigned routes for food pick-up.
Take a long route or a short route, no matter what; your help will be
appreciated. You’ll be given a map, and you will bring the food you
gather back to the pantry.

• Sorters to be stationed at the pantry from 11:00 a.m. through 5:00
p.m., in two hour shifts. Feel free to stay as long as you like. The
food pantry will supply water, soda, coffee or tea and PB&J
sandwiches, along with hard work and a good time.

Anyone wishing to volunteer to drive and pick up or sort donations can
do so by e-mailing Sally Lovett Boutin at kidsense@comcast.net

or calling her at 781-826-6485, or on her cell at 781-799-0053.

Remember that all collected food stocks the shelves of our very own
Hanover Food Pantry for our friends and neighbors in need. The food
that is gathered each year at the Postal Workers Annual Food Drive
sees those in need through the summer when the churches, civic
organizations, schools and other groups stop or slow their regular
collections. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Regardless of your ability to volunteer to help that day, please
don’t forget to donate your food to the town-wide drive on May 11th!
Details will be forthcoming.

*Do you have scary stuff in your cellar?*

Hanover will host a household hazardous waste collection day this
spring. Residents may attend at no charge.
The collection is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on *April 27
*at the Hanover Transfer Station, 118 Rockland Street.

*Bring*: Oil based paint, stains, solvents, gasoline, automotive
fluids, pesticides, photography and pool chemicals, acids, bases, and
poisons in secure, labeled containers.
*Do not bring:* industrial, pathological and medical waste,
radioactive materials, pressurized gas cylinders or explosives.
*Motor oil, propane tanks, appliances (some for a fee), auto and
rechargeable batteries, and fluorescent lamps *are collected regularly
at the transfer station.
Latexpaints and driveway sealers are *messy, but not hazardous*. If
not recyclable as described below, absorb liquid with cat litter and
dispose in trash. *Usable leftover latex paint* will be accepted and
recycled into new paint products at The Paint Exchange LLC of North
Scituate for a fee of $2. To see if your paint qualifies for
recycling, and for hours of operation, go to www.ssrcoop.info

and click on “latex paint.
Residents who turn in a* toxic mercury* thermometer, thermostat or
other mercury item may swap it for a digital thermometer. This program
is sponsored by *Covanta at SEMASS*.

DINNER FOR MOTHER’S DAY! DON’T FORGET GRADUATION! FATHER’S DAY! AN
EASY SUNDAY MEAL!
The Youth Ministries of the First Congregational Church is going to
New Jersey this July to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. In an
effort to raise funds for the trip, the church is selling homemade,
delicious lasagnas just in time for Mother’s Day. The church has
been doing this for 18 years and would like to extend this delicious
offer to the community. Please consider supporting this wonderful
cause by purchasing a pan of lasagna. All funds raised go directly
towards the trip.

Three Cheese and Meat (burger/sausage) $18.00 each

Fund Drive. Donations may be mailed to P.O. Box 67, Hanover MA 02339.
Letters were sent to most Hanover residents at the end of March. If
you would like more information or a letter and donation form, please

. Donations received before April 22nd will be included in the annual
donors list provided during HHS graduation events.
