Annual Town Meeting 2024

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover’s 2024 Annual Town Meeting will be held beginning on Monday, May
6th at Hanover High School, 287 Cedar Street. The evening will begin with
a brief Special Town Meeting at 7:00 p.m. to close out 2024 Fiscal Year,
and then the Annual Town Meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Here is the link to the Town Meeting documents that are available for your
review and study prior to the meeting:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=lzHbA+WF+/ufAFzaz7tePQny5CyRnVpVpMF0r3k3I8JoqLt7nDNYRqoN783ZLADJ
. Of note is the potential override of the budget. The town has devised a
clever “override calculator” (kudos to those with the technical ability to
figure this out!) page which will help you to see the impact of both the
base budget and/or the override budget on your taxes. Go to:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=3aCyoMMVGJGClHMZmb96+gny5CyRnUpVpMF0r3k3I8JoqLt7nDP4RqoN783ZLADJ
. If the link does not work, you may have to copy and paste it into your
browser. All you have to do is type in your street name and address, and
your estimated 2025 taxes will be displayed with and without the override.

Check in will begin at 6:00 p.m. down near the Engineering/Art wing of the
high school and voters will be able to access the check-in area from the
FRONT of the building. The main room of the meeting will be in the
auditorium, with the cafe set up as an overflow space as needed. If
non-voters, including children, wish to attend Town Meeting, they are
kindly/respectfully asked to sit in the overflow area in the cafeteria so
as to maximize seats for voters in the auditorium.

As always, remote participation at a Town Meeting is not possible. You
must be present to vote. The event will be simulcast on the Town’s Cable
TV and on FB Live.

Check your voter registration before you go:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=HLZK0uJuttuhcXAkfIR1qQny5CyRnfpVpMF0r3k3I8JoqLt7nDNIRqoN783ZLADJ
! The last day to register to vote is April 26, 2024 and you can register
on-line at that same link. For more information about voter registration,
please contact the Town Clerk’s Office or the Board of Registrar’s Office.

If we are unable to conclude all of the business before the town by the end
of the night, typically Night Two is the following evening, Tuesday, May
7th, but that is decided by the meeting at the end of the first night.
Articles decided upon on the first night are always potentially subject to
a reconsideration vote on the second night.

For more information about the warrant, please contact the Select Board
Office.

Stories from the Revolution: Hanover in the War for Independence

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Stories from the Revolution: Hanover in the War for Independence
with Stephen O’Neill, Executive Director, Hanover Historical Society

6:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 16th, 2024
The John Curtis Free Library, 534 Hanover Street

This program, in honor of the 250th Anniversary of the American
Revolutionary War, tells the story of Hanover and its residents during the
conflict. Stories from the Revolution uses original objects and documents
from the Historical Society’s and other collections to illustrate how the
War changed the lives of the people of Hanover. These are the stories of
one town supporting the Patriot cause, a colonel who commanded a regiment
through five years of warfare, a family that faced disease and struggle, a
former slave who won his freedom, common soldiers who answered the call to
service, some of whom never returned, and a general Town Meeting that voted
in favor of Independence.

Sponsored by the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati
