Demystifying Dyslexia: *Definition and Intervention*
Tuesday, March 12, 2013, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

*Description:* Join us for an informative and exciting presentation
exploring the signs and symptoms, as well as effective interventions,
for individuals with dyslexia. Audience members will have a chance to
ask questions following the presentation.

*Presented by: *The Massachusetts Branch of the International Dyslexia
Association (MABIDA)

Margaret E. Pierce, Ed.D.: Dr. Pierce is an Assistant Professor in the
Education Department at Stonehill College. Prior to her appoint at
Stonehill, Dr. Pierce worked at the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst, where she taught in the Special Education concentration in
the School of Education. In addition to her academic work, she is a
Written Language Specialist in the Learning Disabilities Program
within the Department of Neurology at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Looking for new and fun things to do with children when the weather is
still cold and crummy?

Look no farther than the John Curtis Free Library – where you’ll find
a slew of passes to excellent cultural organizations – from the New
England Aquarium, to the Children’s Museum, to Harvard’s Museum of
Natural History.

If you have never been, consider visiting Harvard’s Museum of Natural
History which is chalk full of incredible, family-friendly exhibits
including Native American artifacts, pre-historic fossils (including a
42-foot mounted Kronosaurus), and innumerable taxidermy animals and
birds from Africa, New England, and the world at large among other
excellent permanent and temporary exhibits. Visit

Coming to the Harvard Museum of Natural History this March: Their
Annual Family Festival:

Join the museum for their biggest family event of the year: “Stories
through Time”, on Saturday, March 9, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. invites
you to explore our past with faculty, students, and curators from
Harvard’s science and cultural museums. Learn about how our human
ancestors lived. Play a 3,000-year-old game. Visualize changes in
season and climate over the past 30 years. With more than 15 tables of
hands-on activities and scientific specimens targeted at different
ages, the whole family will enjoy this event. Free event parking in
the 52 Oxford Street garage is available.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Consider yourself warmly invited to “Irish Lores and Legends” on
Saturday, March 9th at 7:00 p.m. It will be an evening of intriguing
stories about Irish Americans who called Hanover home since the 18th
century. Stories will be shared in the historic Stetson Barn and House
Museum, the home one of Hanover’s first taverns. Learn fascinating
tales of Irish Americans right before St. Patrick’s Day.

After the program you are invited to Squires of Hanover, a traditional
Irish pub, where you can have a free appetizer. Tickets are $15 for
non-members and $10 for members. Please join the Hanover Historical
Society on this special night in collaboration with Squires Pub of
Hanover. Reservations are required. Space is limited.

*Free tutoring from the HHS National Honors Society starts March 5th!*

Attention parents and students (grades K-8)!
The Hanover High School National Honors Society will be offering free
tutoring every other Tuesday at the John Curtis Library starting March
5th. Students can drop in anytime between 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.; no sign up
necessary.

FEBRUARY 24TH from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. AT THE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH
HALL (RILEY HALL), ROUTE 139, IN HANOVER.

appraisers.

The Hanover Foundation for Educational Enrichment is bringing back (by
popular demand!) “A Night with Jim Plunkett” on Saturday, March 9,
2013 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Pembroke from 7:30 p.m. –

One of the great things about “Around Town on the Web” is the ability
to publish corrections to previous information without having to wait
a week for the next issue!

Residents are hereby advised that Town Hall is NOT open this Monday,
February 18th, due to the Presidents’ Day holiday. Residents wishing
to obtain a duplicate copy of their census from the Registrar’s Office
should swing by Town Hall on Tuesday (or later in the week).

However, the drop box for completed census forms is available outside
the front door of Town Hall 24/7, as always.

Apologies for any confusion!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The first of the Hanover Historical Society’s “Twilight Walking
Tour Series” will be held in Hanover Center on March 2, 2013 at 5:00
p.m.

Did you know that the original town hall burned to the ground? What
about an alleged ghost in the Congregational Church? This twilight
walking tour will unearth stories of Hanover Center’s intriguing
past. The tour will meet at the historic Stetson House Museum and end
with a reception at the museum after. The Hanover Historical Society
will be celebrating 85 years of sharing Hanover’s history in March
of 2013!

Tickets are $15 per person/$10 member. Buy it as package beforehand
and save $5! The series ticket price is $40 per person/$25 Member if
pre-registered. There other walking tours will be in Four Corners on
April 13th at 6:00 p.m. and in South Hanover Village on May 4th at
7:00 p.m.

The Society can accept checks or cash only. Checks may be made out to
the Hanover Historical Society and mailed to P.O. Box 156 in Hanover.
