Come explore Hanover’s longest boardwalk trail *June 24th, 9:30 a.m

. – the Colby-Phillips trail!*
There are a number of unique features on the property including a
historic cemetery, a number of new loops off the main trail, and a
connection to the Rockland rail trail. Be sure to check out the bird
watching deck overlooking a beautiful woodland marsh setting. Park at
Hanover Middle School off Whiting Street.
Stay informed about Hanover Open Space Committee’s activities and
volunteer opportunities: you can find them on Facebook: Hanover Open
Space, the web: http://www.hanover-ma.gov/open-space.shtml
, or join their Yahoo Group: HanoverOpenSpace. They would like to hear
from you if you are interested in more information on the work of the
Committee. The Open Space Committee meets regularly on the 1st Monday
of each month at 7:30 p.m

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Community Television (HCTV) would like to invite all Hanover
residents that are interested in becoming a part of HCTV to their
upcoming orientation. Orientation will take place on Thursday, June
21st at 7:00 p.m. at Hanover High in the multipurpose room. During
this time you’ll learn what access TV is all about and the benefits
you’ll enjoy as a member of HCTV. They will discuss the policies and
regulations of HCTV, explain what you’ll learn in free upcoming
training classes, and answer your questions. If you have already
attended one of their orientation classes you are still welcome to
come, but the same material will be covered.

Town Manager Troy Clarkson, in response to the Board of Selectmen’s
unanimous goal to improve communication, is forming a focus group to
gather suggestions and ideas for an improved website and other
technology improvements. If you are interested in serving your
community and have notions of how things can be improved, send your

*Parking restrictions for Hanover Day*

The Hanover Cultural Council and the Hanover Day Planning Committee
have been working with the Hanover Police and Fire Departments, as
well as other town officials, to manage traffic and parking on Hanover
Day on Saturday, June 16.

The following parking and traffic plan will help ensure everyone’s
safety and enjoyment of the event. The police will direct traffic and
will enforce parking restrictions throughout the day. Violators will
be towed.

Free parking will be available at most town parking lots (library,
town hall, and near Sylvester School). The parking lots at Center
School are restricted to provide clearance for the fireworks launch
area. On-street parking will be available on the northbound side of
Main Street and the southbound side of Silver Street (alongside the
cemetery), but there is absolutely no parking inside the cemetery
itself. With the exception of the auto show cars, there also is
absolutely no parking on B. Everett Hall/Sylvester Field itself.

During the evening part of the celebration only, parking is allowed
only on Route 139 westbound (the same side as B. Everett
Hall/Sylvester Field).

Several area businesses and organizations have generously volunteered
to allow parking for Hanover Day, including Riley Hall, St. Mary’s
Church, the Lutheran Church, Hanover Fitness, Go Go’s Sub Shop,
Briggs Stables, Briggs Field and Hanover Dental. Please allow ample
time for parking, and please be courteous and cautious when parking.

This just in from the curator of the Hanover Historical Society (the
Society has a curator? Awesome!).

Solstice Stroll: A Candlelit Tour of the 1716 Stetson House
June 23rd, 2012, 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Hanover Historical Society, 514 Hanover Street

Admission: $5 Non-members, Members free

Stroll into the past for a candlelit tour at the 1716 Stetson House in
Hanover. The tour will gather in the Stetson Barn. Guests will be
invited to have some refreshments in the barn before beginning the
tour. The tour will start in the lantern lit herb garden; you will
hear tales of gardening by moonlight. In the house, the tour will
include highlight stories of intrigue, mystery, and Midsummer’s Eve
in New England long ago.

Reservations are strongly suggested. Tours are at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00

About Hanover Historical Society:
The Hanover Historical Society is a 501(c3) nonprofit organization.
The Society was incorporated on March 1, 1928. Hanover Historical
Society archives and museum are located in the Stetson House, 514
Hanover Street in Hanover. The Stetson House is open to the public for
research on Wednesdays from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. year round.
Additionally, the house will also be open for house tours with the
curator on Thursdays from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in June – October this
year.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
This summer, two Hanover High School juniors are traveling to Haiti
for a week. Nora Ghostlaw and Marissa Tofuri are traveling to
Bon-Repos, Haiti, the hometown of Marissa’s mom, Kerline, for a week
of volunteer work. Regular readers of “Around Town on the Web”
will remember the good works of Hanover’s own Kerline Tofuri. Those
new to ATOTW are encouraged to check the archives (link below) for
further information!

Nora and Marissa (editor’s note: two of my favorite Hanover High
students) are individually funding their own expenses, but are looking
to raise money for medical and school supplies for the families of
Bon-Repos. Therefore, they are hosting a yard sale this Saturday, June
16th from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon. The yard sale will be held at 32
Hammer Hook Drive (off of Grove Street). They will have a variety of
items for sale including games, furniture, and baby things. All of the
money raised from the yard sale will go directly to purchasing the
medical and school supplies for the people of Bon-Repos.

Please plan now to stop by Hammer Hook Drive (from Grove to Hawthorne,
then turn right at bottom of the hill) before you head over to Hanover
Day and make a purchase or a donation!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

*Come and play at Hanover Day this weekend!*

Final preparations are being made for this Saturday’s Hanover Day
celebration, which launches its full slate of activities promptly at
10:00 a.m. on June 16. The fun continues all day long at B. Everett
Hall/Sylvester Field, with a spectacular fireworks display capping off
the full day of activities at 9:00 p.m.

The craft fair artisans and vendors – more than 150 of them – are
ready to show off their latest items, and numerous community groups
will be there to provide information about how you can get involved in
town organizations.

This year, the Main Stage has been moved from the bandstand and will
quite literally be at the center of the action. Scheduled performances
include local bands and singers, while on the second stage, daytime
activities include animal shows by the South Shore Natural Science
Center, the Talking Hands Theater Puppet Show, Fashion Focus fashion
show, and Zumba with Jodi Craft. Local magician and recent Hanover
High graduate John Logan will perform, and Radio Disney will also
feature the latest music and fun. Across the street at the Stetson
House, artisans will demonstrate wood turning, tools, and other
traditional skills, an exhibit will explain Hanover’s shipbuilding
history, and one of the garden clubs will help kids build their own
fairy houses.

With sports activities (including hockey clinics, football drills,
soccer camp, and Knucklebones games), a children’s art project,
bouncy houses, a dunk tank, clown performances, chainsaw carving, and
a chalk-art contest all commanding your attention, be sure to set
aside time for something to eat from one of the many local food
vendors!

Daytime activities will run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at B. Everett
Hall/Sylvester Field on Hanover Street, with the evening activities
scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The fireworks are scheduled for
