Art Matters and an update

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
First, please note that free Zumba with Tony Marino at the Senior
Center in June will be at 6:30 p.m., not 6:00 p.m. as previously
mentioned here on “Around Town on the Web”. Go to the archives
(link listed at the bottom of these e-mails always) for further
details!
Second, thanks to the Friends of Hanover Council on Aging, you can
experience a unique opportunity! On Friday, June 22, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.
at the Hanover Senior Center, 665 Center Street, the Hanover Council
on Aging is proud to offer “ART MATTERS”, an art awareness program
for all ages. This session will feature Claude Monet. Past programs
have included: Impressionism, Post Impressionism, the Italian
Renaissance, DaVinci and Pablo Picasso.
Jane Blair, artist, teacher and lecturer, introduces the program and
keeps individuals connected to the art world and encourages a loving
relationship with the visual arts. It is fun, entertaining and
inspiring. You do not have to be an artist to appreciate art. This is
a great and affordable opportunity (thanks to the Friends of the
Hanover COA).
Art is for everyone. We bring the museum to you. The Hanover Senior
Center invites you to attend and enjoy a hot fudge sundae dessert.
Donation is only $2.00. Please call the Center to register at
781-924-1913. Don’t miss out on this opportunity. Learning never
ends. For more information, please contact coa@hanover-ma.gov

.

Successful book and bake sale

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The Friends of the John Curtis Free Library wish to thank everyone
involved in their recent book and bake sale held on Saturday, May 19.
This event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Friends, and
they rely on generous townspeople to bake treats for sale and to
donate books, CDs, tapes, DVDs, videos, and puzzles in good condition.

The Friends received a record number of excellent donations this year
which made for a tremendous sale! They sincerely thank everyone who
was involved in this successful fundraiser in any way: all those who
provided such wonderful books, everyone who supplied delicious baked
goods, the volunteers who tirelessly sorted and organized the
donations for sale, and the many people who made purchases on the
19th. They are thrilled to have raised almost $1,300! The town’s
collective response to raise funds for our library’s programs and
cultural passes is greatly appreciated and will benefit the library
immediately. Thanks to all!

Donations needed for the Last Resort Cat Shelter’s Annual Yard Sale

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Donations of items are needed for the upcoming annual Last Resort Cat
Shelter’s Giant Yard Sale. The sale will raise money to help
abandoned and injured cats and kittens. Expenses have increased in
recent years and a successful sale will go a long way towards
continuing to provide excellent care for pets in need. Since 1981, the
shelter on Broadway in Hanover has found homes for more than 11,000
cats and kittens.

Younger members of the Last Resort’s volunteer staff are reviving
the popular annual Giant Yard Sale, hosting it at one of their homes
on Saturday and Sunday, June 23 and 24. In years past, over 100
families donated items to the sale.

They welcome furniture, books and DVDs, costume jewelry, collectibles,
tools, dishes, pots and pans, clothes, small appliances, toys and
games, sporting and exercise equipment, musical instruments, tools and
household items—in short, anything you think will sell and make
money to help pets in need—they’ve even had boats and go-karts
donated in the past! (Please no tires or non-working appliances).

At the site of the sale in Hanson (181 Union Street), a volunteer will
be on hand on the following days to help unload items: Saturday, June
2, Saturday, June 9, and Friday, June 15 – each day from 11:00 a.m.
— 4:00 p.m. You may also leave items at the shelter in Hanover (1126
Broadway) on Saturday, June 2 and Saturday, June 16 – each day from
10:00 a.m. — noon. To leave things at other times, please call Trish
in Hanson at (617) 840-6997, or Joan in Hanover at (781) 826-5610.

Willing to volunteer to work during intake or sale hours? Have a tent
they can borrow? Please contact Joan at (781) 826-5610 or
jnorrisink@verizon.net
. Joan wishes to also extend her thanks to “Around Town on the
Web” readers for their generous response to the call for blanket,
comforter and towel donations earlier this year!

Hanover to honor veterans

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This year’s slice of Americana right here in small-town Hanover will
feature the Memorial Day (Monday, May 28th) parade as we honor our
town’s veterans. As previously mentioned here on ATOTW, the Troop 38
Pancake Breakfast will begin at 7:00 a.m. and the Troop 1 Concession
Stand will open at 8:30 a.m. The town’s annual Memorial Day Parade
will step off at 10:00 a.m. from behind the Parish Hall at St. Mary’s.
As usual, the veterans, police and fire departments, Boy and Girl
Scouts and Little League and Softball teams will lead the parade that
will assemble beginning at 9:00 a.m. What an honor it will especially
be for our young people to pay tribute to our town’s fallen and
servicemen and women.

Attached please find the Memorial Day Parade route and some
interesting information regarding the monuments that the parade will
be stopping to honor. For more information, please contact the
Selectmen’s Office at selectmen@hanovermass.com

.

As always, there will be ice cream and cold drinks for the parade
marchers at St. Mary’s Parish Hall after the parade and speeches at
Town Hall.
