Blood Drive for Matthew Westfield and a correction

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The Massachusetts General Hospital Bloodmobile will be at the Hanover
Middle School on Wednesday, May 23rd from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Long-time
readers of “Around Town on the Web” will remember that this blood
drive is run every year in Matthew Westfield’s memory. Please join me
in honoring long-time and much loved Hanover teacher Peggy Westfield
and in memorializing Matthew by calling Karen at 781-871-1122 x11 for
an appointment.

On a separate but somewhat related note, the call for volunteers to
the two school committees that were created by last week’s Town
Meeting needs an amendment. Town Moderator Doug Thomson will be
appointing volunteers to the School Oversight Management Committee and
the Center/Sylvester School Feasibility Study Committee, but he can be
reached at THIS e-mail address: moderator@hanover-ma.gov

, not the address listed in Thursday’s e-mail. Doug and I apologize
for the error and any confusion.

Beverly Gilmartin’s retirement

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Mrs. Beverly Gilmartin, TePee Program Director and teacher, will be
retiring after 24 years in the Hanover Schools. Hundreds of Hanover
kindergarten students and children of Hanover Schools staff have had
the opportunity to have been a part of this unique, self-supporting
program. Whether at the soccer field, the grocery store, or at Hanover
Mall, whenever the words “TePee” or “Mrs. Gilmartin” were
mentioned, it was sure to put a smile on the faces of everyone around.
For many years, it was considered “Hanover’s biggest secret”
because it was the only program in town of its kind. Not only did the
program provide a service to the residents of Hanover who had
kindergarten children, it opened up an opportunity for Hanover
teachers and staff to have their preschoolers in a safe, learning
environment within their teaching district.

And now, we say goodbye to Mrs. Gilmartin and her TePee Program as
they both retire in June. If you would like to share an experience or
simply wish Mrs. Gilmartin a happy retirement, please send an e-mail
or handwritten note to Susan Rossi at snlwm69@aol.com

or 69 Outlook Road, Marshfield, MA 02050 by June 8th. Whether you are
a parent, a former high school student, or a former TePee student, she
would love to hear from you. A retirement party is being held in her
honor at the Halifax Country Club on Friday evening, June 22nd, from
6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. If you are interested in attending, please
call or e-mail Marie Dinneen at 781 878-7486 or ree168@yahoo.com

or Pat Stone at 781-878-6096 or
patstone9@yahoo.com
.

(Editor’s note: My daughter was one of the very lucky students of
Beverly Gilmartin’s TePee Program, so I thought I would start off
the accolades by wishing Mrs. Gilmartin nothing but the best in her
retirement…just as she always gave “her” kids nothing but the
best. Bev – you rock, and you are so loved in this house!
Congratulations and all the best in this new chapter of your life!
~CHB)
