HHS Auction and yard sale to benefit scholarships

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

With the construction of the new Hanover High School nearing
completion, the old high school prepares for demolition. As a result,
an Auction/Yard sale will be held on Saturday, June 25th!

Although the old Hanover High School is coming down, the building has
lots of usable items and these will be auctioned or sold to create a
new scholarship fund.

On Saturday, June 25th at 8:30 a.m., there will be an auction in the
old High School gym. The auction will include some great items like
sets of lockers, old tables, chairs, bookcases, doors, cabinets and
miscellaneous items. The auction will run for approximately 1 hour.
After the auction, residents can go through the building and buy any
remaining usable items from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. All proceeds will
go to create 4 individual scholarships for a member of the first four
graduating classes from the new high school.

The goal is to raise as much money as possible with a target goal of
$10,000. Residents can come and grab a piece of memorabilia and help
us recycle some cool items. Anything not sold will just end up in the
demolition contract and we hope that people will stop by and shop or
at least write a check for the new scholarships.

Volunteers are needed to help with the sale and can contact Chris
Martin to sign up at chris.martin14@verizon.net

.

A few days after the sale, the Massachusetts State Police will conduct
training in the building for a day and then the building will begin
the deconstruction process throughout the summer. The contractor hopes
to have the building down before the beginning of the school year. The
official dedication of the new High School will take place on Sunday,
September 18th. Further details regarding the dedication will be
forthcoming; mark your calendars in the meantime!

Upcoming Spring Soccer games

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Ace spring soccer reporter Geoff Hoffman is back on the beat and he
sent along the following update! (Thanks, Geoff! Who knew I had such
loyal reporters? Who knew I had reporters?!!)

Calling all soccer fans…

With the sun finally reappearing for the weekend, why not come out and
watch some great soccer on Hanover’s terrific new venue – the
Harry E. Gerrish “Turf” Field behind the new Hanover High School.

On Saturday evening May 21st at 6:00 p.m., the Hanover Boys U16 team
takes on the Boys U16 team from Silver Lake. The Hanover U16’s are
vying for the top spot in the Coastal League U16 Division and will
need a win to stay in reach of 1st place Middleboro. The team features
freshman and sophomore players from Hanover.

Then, on Sunday morning May 22nd at 8:00 a.m., in a long anticipated
match, the Hanover Boys U19 team takes on the Hanover Boys U18 team
for town bragging rights. Both the 19’s and the 18’s are in
contention for winning their respective divisions and this game is
important to both teams. The Boys U19 team consists of current high
school seniors including last year’s HS captains and college
freshman, some of who have gone on to play at the collegiate level.
The Boys U18 team is made up of a core of high school juniors,
including next year’s Hanover High School captains and some
sophomores.

Looking for some girls’ soccer to watch? On Saturday May 21st the
Hanover Girls U14 team will play before the Boys U16 team at 4:30 p.m.
and they too are in contention at the top of their division.

Get out and enjoy the dry weather (it WILL happen someday) along with
some great soccer at the new field!

HHS Sports Boosters info

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover High School Sports Boosters (HHSS Boosters) raise money
for the athletes and sports programs at the high school. In these
tough economic times, some of the sports remain unfunded at the high
school. The athletic budget has been cut by $150,000 in the past two
years, so the trickledown effect is that individual sport budgets have
been cut and this negatively affects our student athletes.

Recently the HHSS Boosters have helped four unfunded sports and
supplied items that were eliminated from the athletic budget. Starting
this year, the Boosters have paid for any senior that attended any
home game. The HHSS Boosters also use funds raised to purchase varsity
letters, pins and bars, banners for the gym, senior day flowers,
crowns and gifts for the homecoming court, and scholarships for
seniors.

However, with the new school construction underway, the Boosters have
not had their main source of fundraising, which was the concession
stand, for the past two seasons.

The HHSS Boosters is doing new and exciting things this year. They
have a membership drive going on to keep in contact with families and
they have changed the format of the sports banquets to a “Wrap Up
Rally”. They also had their second annual Holiday Blitz, which is
now a big fundraiser. Their biggest fundraiser, the Patriots
Basketball game, is coming June 21, 2011. The game will take place at
the new Hanover High School gym. This event is always a huge family
favorite, and tickets are still available. Don’t miss out!

Many people have asked, “What does Boosters do?” and “Where does
the money go?” The Boosters hope this clears up those questions and
makes you want to become a Booster member.

To find out more about the HHSS Boosters, click here:
http://www.hanoverschools.org/highschool/athletics/boosters.htm
. Stop by and see them at the new Hanover High School on June 12th,
for Blue and Gold Day. As previously mentioned on “Around Town on
the Web”, don’t forget to purchase a ticket to the Patriots
Basketball game on June 21, at 7:00 pm., too!

The Boosters would like to thank everyone for their continued support,
and also look for new members and welcome parental involvement in this
organization. For more information, please feel free to contact Lori
Shisler at rshisler@verizon.net
.
Thank you,
Hanover High School Sports Boosters
