Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Friends of the Stetson House will hold their second open meeting
to explore possibly moving the dismantled barn from 645 Center Street
to the Stetson House property. The historic barn was part of the 645
Center Street property purchased by the town at the recommendation of
the Community Preservation Committee at town meeting four years ago.
It is believed this historic barn was originally built in the late
1700’s to early 1800’s and that only ten such barns still exist in
the United States. Currently the barn is being stored in a trailer and
all sections of the barn have been labeled and marked. Anyone
interested in attending is welcome.

The meeting will take place on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at
the Stetson House.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

It’s time again for the Annual Book and Bake Sale at the John Curtis
Free Library. This event will be held, rain or shine, on Saturday, May
21, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Plan to shop early for the best
selection of paperback and hardcover fiction and non-fiction. All
books are organized by category for easy shopping. There is also a
great selection of puzzles, DVDs, and CDs. Everything is sold at
bargain-basement prices ($2/hardcover and $1/paperback, less for
children’s books) with more bargains towards the end of the sale.

Friends of the John Curtis Free Library are invited to a Preview Sale
on Friday, May 20, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the library (invitations
are required or memberships may be purchased at the Preview Sale for
as low as $10).

This event is sponsored by the Friends of the John Curtis Free Library
with all proceeds to benefit the library. We hope to see you there!

Please be advised of the following important information from PMA
Consultants, the town’s project manager for the new high school
project:
It has been confirmed that the track/field will be out of service from
June 13th through the 27th. If the weather is cooperative and the work
goes smoothly, there may be an opportunity to finish it earlier, but
the community should plan for no access during that period, for now.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Foundation for Educational Enrichment will host its final
meeting of the school year on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the home of
Mugsy Sarson, 88 Whiting Street. The Hanover Foundation is a
non-profit organization founded in 1991 to provide enrichment of the
curriculum of the Hanover Public Schools.

Last year, over $10,700 was allocated to enhance educational
opportunities for students in the Hanover Public Schools. Grants
funded included Discovery Education video streaming and Learning with
Frames technology, the Tidepool Alive visit from the Museum of
Science, Freedom Trail Scholars, NeoScience Efficiency lab; new
equipment including: a document camera, laptop, a laminator, rocks and
minerals kits, and stained glass art materials.

New students are entering the schools every year, and the Foundation
is always hopeful that interested parents and new faces will appear at
this meeting to help continue on the important work they do! They
really do need your help! If you think you would like to get involved

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This just in…the Hanover High Boosters is holding its annual New
England Patriots vs. Hanover High Alumni Basketball Fundraiser Game on
June 21st at 7:00 p.m. at the *new high school gymnasium! Yes, you
read that right…the NEW HIGH SCHOOL GYM!*

* *
Tickets are being sold strictly through calls being made to homes in
town by a committee on behalf of Hanover High Boosters. Chances are if
your number is non-published you wouldn’t get a call.

My sources tell me that if you call 781-709-2058 you may still be able
to secure tickets. They are not there 24/7, but if you’re
persistent, you may get through.

Come down and see some of your favorite Patriots football players try
and outplay our superstar alumni!

Don’t miss out! This event has been sold out every year and having
the chance to see them play at the *new gym* is huge!! If you already
bought tickets, please be aware that they say “Hanover Middle
School” because they were printed before the Boosters secured the
*new gym*.

Hanover High Boosters will be selling apparel/decals/rally towels–
they have a 50/50 raffle and a great raffle basket as well. The
Hanover High Swim Team will be holding a concession stand and Papa
Gino’s will be there handing out pizza!

Please help support Hanover High Boosters who are a group of
volunteers that strictly fundraise for the purpose of giving back to
the athletes at Hanover High! For more information, please contact

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

A local Hanover-based book club is sponsoring a “Meet the Authors”
afternoon on Saturday, May 21st at 2:00 p.m. at The Elms Clubhouse, 68
American Elm Avenue in Hanover. Four local authors, all members of the
South Shore Writer’s Club, will be talking about their books and
answering questions about self-publishing.

The four authors are: Susan Trausch from Hingham, recently retired
from the Globe and who has written a humorous book about retirement,
Virginia Young from Hanson who is writing a series of mysteries
setting one book in each of the New England states, Donna Fitzgerald,
also of Hanson, who has written a fictitious murder mystery set in
Hanover, and Barrie Edward, a resident of The Elms, who has written a
book as a sequel to the movie, “Casablanca”.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public. The author’s

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

As the school year comes to an end, show your appreciation to a
teacher by presenting them with the Golden Apple Award card. Sponsored
by the Hanover Foundation for Educational Enrichment, this program was
created to honor any Hanover educator, including teachers, aides,
administrators, coaches or anyone who assists in the education of a
child.

For a donation of $10 to the HFEE, you will receive a Golden Apple
Award card. This year’s card was made by sixth grade Hanover Middle
School student Deidre White and is a pastel depicting a bowl laden
with colorful fruit. Ms. White’s pastel was the winning entry in the
Golden Apple Art Contest held this spring.

Your Golden Apple donation to the Foundation supports educational
enrichment programs and will impact many students in the Hanover
school system. This year the Foundation awarded over $10,700 in grants
to teachers in all grades of the Hanover Public Schools.

Golden Apple Award cards may be obtained by filling out the Golden
Apple form located here:

Why Join Cub Scouts? Scouting teaches boys about character, respect,
setting goals, duty to God and country and many other qualities that
parents want their boys to possess. Boys get to play, compete, create,
camp and do so many other things that boys love to do.

Now that the dust has settled and I have adjusted to the new software
that we are using for “Around Town on the Web” (ATOTW), I wanted
to take a moment to update all of you regarding the new procedures
needed to be added or deleted from the ATOTW e-mail distribution list.

If you or anyone you know would like to be added to ATOTW, please know
that we do not do so manually anymore! Please simply click on the link
that appears toward the bottom of every e-mail blast and follow the
directions thereafter. Or, if you don’t have a recent e-mail handy,
you may also go to www.atotw.com
and click on the tab at the top of the page that says “Sign Up!”
After doing so, you will receive an automated e-mail that asks you to
confirm that you wish to be signed up. Oftentimes such e-mails end up
in your spam filter or junk mail folder, so make sure you look for it
and then confirm your request to sign up. I just checked; we currently
have seven requested users who have not yet confirmed their interest
in being added!

The same basic procedures apply to requests to be dropped from ATOTW.
Find the link at the bottom of an e-mail, click on it and confirm your
wish to be dropped.

Even though we have gone to this automated sign-up system (that will
surely make my life easier given how large ATOTW has become), please
know that there is always a person behind the e-mails. Don’t
hesitate to contact me at cathyhb@atotw.com
regarding e-mail content issues, and Mike Van Lare regarding
technical issues at mike@atotw.com
